Turlough O'Brien grew up in a GAA environment and strangely enough this is where his love for cycling came from as he delivered letters to county board members which his late father, Jim, had written.
His love intensified for two wheel travelling . Turlough has travelled around Europe on the bike and has been accompanied on many of his adventures by Mary, his wife. As each of this three children left primary school, Turlough brought them cycling on the continent for holidays they will never forget.
He recalls arriving to a town in Spain without a place to stay to find a festival in full swing and all hostels and hotels fully booked. With one of his children, it was back on their bikes and on to the next town. There was no room at the inn there either but they coped.
He also paid a surprise visit to his sister in New York where he landed on the doorstep wet to the skin having flown over from Dublin where he bought a bike after he had got off the plane.
There is a little bit of football chat too but this podcast is all about human interests and cycling.
