CPAP Machines require very little actual maintenance. Mainly a little cleaning and changing or washing the air filters.
CPAP Mask Cleaning
Since the CPAP Mask is against your face every night all night, the cleaning of the mask will depend on your skin. Once a week is probably more than enough for most people and maybe too often for others. Using a mild anti-bacterial soap and hot water in the sink you can just dip the entire mask including headgear into the sink, swish it around a bit and let it air dry.
CPAP Machine Filters
Some CPAP Machines have disposable filters and other have filter you can just wash out, usually by hand in the sink is good enough. Changing your filter will depend on your environment, once every couple of weeks or once a month is usually plenty. Cheap CPAP Machine Filters are easy to find.
CPAP Machine Tubing
Again depending on your environment and if you have a humidifier using regular tap water you can give this a good rinse with mild anti-bacterial hand soap the same time when you clean your mask and air dry. Make sure there are no holes in your tubing. This would affect your air pressure while your using it. Hoses are easily replaced and like other accessories don’t require proof of your prescription.
CPAP Machine Humidifier and Water Container
Use distilled water! Using tap water will leave mineral deposits on your container and they are impossible to clean.
CPAP Machine Exterior
There is absolutely no user maintenance on the inside of your machine. You will never be required to open it. Besides changing the filters regularly, you can wipe down the outside periodically and ensure the power cord is in good shape.
