This episode we’re speaking with Jim Knight. Jim has been studying professional learning, effective teaching, and instructional coaching for over two decades. He’s a research associate within the Centre for REsearch on Learning within Kansas University, and has written a whole raft of excellent educational books including Instructional coaching, a partnership approach, Unmistakeable impact, high-impact instruction, Focus on teaching, and the Impact Cycle, whic hsi the focus of today’s conversation.

Jim is an absolute expert at the art and science of coaching, and his knowledge, wisdom, and skill really shines through in this interview.

I’m particularly excited about this interview because we got super hands on and we actually do a live coaching session within the interview. The interview was recorded in two parts. Prior to part 1, I sent Jim a video of my classroom and the first half of the podcast includes a coaching session following his watching of that video. I then went away and tried some things out, and we spent the second half of the interview reflecting on progress, and diving more deeply into the theory and practice of coaching.

It was an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to work with Jim in this way and I hope you take as much from our discussion as I did.
