There were two major developments within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this month that have exposed the conservative rot within. The first was an announcement made on the LDS Church's website titled, "First Presidency urges Latter-day Saints to wear masks, be vaccinated." This seemingly innocuous appeal from the church's leaders to get their membership to help stop the spread of a deadly pandemic sent many conservative members into a full meltdown, with many of them officially resigning from the church. The second item of note seemed to come as a hopeful reassurance to the church's more conservative members to let them know the church wasn't moving to the left. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and former President of Brigham Young University delivered a speech at the private, Mormon-owned school wherein he asserted that the university needed to stop being so friendly to the church's LGBTQ+ members and that he wanted to "hear a little more musket fire from this temple of learning" in defense of the church and its stance against same-sex marriage.
