On July 14, 2019, 17-year-old Bianca Michelle Devins was murdered by Brandon Andrew Clark after attending a concert in New York. They had become friends over social media just a few months prior to the murder. (Some say they dated, but that remains unclear).
He then posted her death photo to his social media accounts, resulting in the picture being reposted hundreds of thousands of times over the next 24 hours. Social media companies' responses were heavily criticized as the photos were up for so long.
After calling the police on himself, a few hours after the murder, he attempted suicide - in front of police. He survived and was charged with second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
Bianca struggled with mental health during her teen years and had just found a path after finally receiving a proper diagnosis. Despite the difficulties she faced, she graduated high school in June of 2019 and her goal was to begin college in the fall and earn a degree in Psychology so that she could help kids such as herself.
