Brian James Depth Counseling & Archetypal Coaching: http://brianjames.ca

A deep dive into the psychological and archetypal themes of Ari Aster's 2019 folksploitation masterpiece Midsommar with occult author, musician and filmmaker Carl Abrahamsson.

Who better to talk to about this Swedish folk horror classic than a Swedish occultist?

In our conversation we talk about what the film reveals about the collective unconscious at this time, including the Anglo North American longing for a sense of belonging and connection to deep culture and tradition, how our society deals with trauma vs. the way traditional societies do, the lack of meaning in a secular humanist culture, and what that famous smile at the end tells us about Dani and about ourselves.

Carl Abrahamsson is a writer, publisher, magico-anthropologist, filmmaker, and photographer. Since the mid-1980s he has been active in the magical community, integrating "occulture" as a way of life and lecturing about his findings and speculations. The author of several books, including Occulture and Source Magic, and the editor and publisher of The Fenris Wolf, he lives in Småland, Sweden.
