Humble Heart
Manage episode 454654525 series 3438363
In 2 Samuel 23:13-17, three of David's mighty warriors demonstrate extraordinary loyalty and bravery by breaking through enemy lines to fetch water from the well in Bethlehem for David. However, David’s response is surprising. Instead of drinking the water, he pours it out before the Lord, saying, “Far be it from me, Lord, to do this! Is it not the blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?”
David recognized the immense risk his men took to fulfill his longing. He didn’t see the water as something he deserved but as a symbol of their blood and sacrifice. A humble heart acknowledges the efforts and sacrifices of others, never taking them for granted.
Prayer:
Lord, give me a heart like David—humble, reverent, and full of gratitude. Help me to acknowledge the sacrifices of others, to deflect honor to You, and to lead by example. Teach me to pour out my desires and victories as an offering before You, that my life may reflect Your greatness and not my own. Amen.
This passage reminds us that humility isn’t just about thinking less of ourselves but esteeming God and others more. A humble heart like David’s brings glory to God and inspires those around us to do the same.
