How do you stay connected to the people in your organisation when the reality is you have climbed so high up the hierarchy that you in truth don't have a finger on the pulse?

They say the queen thinks the world smells of paint as there is someone 3 metres in front of her making sure she thinks the world is perfect. Of course it's a metaphor, however its one that rings true for many of us.

Consider how perhaps you present the reality of situations up the food chain. As that perspective is passed higher and higher, then how sterilised does that truth become?

Perhaps the data is correct, but the power of the message is lost.

David and I saw a report on how "General Lord Dannatt was left horrified by a shocking video of an RAF initiation ceremony" and it made us think of how when we heard about the Volkeswagon emissions scandal, the then CEO Martin Winterkorn proclaimed innocence to the issue.

So you can know or not know. Either way you are either lying, being willfully blind or negligent, none of this lands well.
