In this interview, ChiChi describes growing up gay in Lima, Perú, before immigrating to New York alone at twenty years old while experiencing homophobia and hiding who she was. She talks about the community of trans women she found in New York and their experiences with transition, injections, sex work, and the police, as well as her relationship with her family and her years-long struggle to get her papers.
