Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I am thrilled to be joined by journalist, author and professor Joanne Gerstner, as well as Marketing and Business Development Coordinator and Podcast Host, Matt Dery, for this special "roundtable" version of the show. Much like me, Joanne and Matt are also fervent sports fans but what also intrigues me about sports is how it can often mirror the complexities of our society. Joanne, Matt and I begin by talking about the Olympics, Simone Biles and our culture's mad obsession with rushing to judgment. We also talk about the challenges athletes must face trying to navigate the often crushing world of social media and the media. We talk about the omnipresence of money and why the Olympics ratings may be lower this year. We discuss women's sports, the astronomical contracts professional athletes are receiving in the NBA and I ask Joanne and Matt about the potential loss of purity in sports. It's a fantastic discussion and be sure to find Matt on Twitter @DerySpeaks and Joanne on Twitter @joannecgerstner or follow her thought-provoking newsletter on the Open Court by clicking HERE. If you enjoy today's episode and you want to support the show, please subscribe on iTUNES. Consider sharing the show with your friends which is also a huge help. Sharing is caring and a great way to support the show or head over to iTunes and write a quick review. You can also support the show by becoming a subscriber at www.patreon.com/eddiecohn where you can access full episodes and exclusive content only available to subscribers. You can also visit my website www.iameddiecohn.com and sign up for my email list and newsletter. I also released another brand new song on Bandcamp which you can purchase by clicking HERE.
