Emotions and Stoicism (#004)

Emotions – the most important thing for many people

Emotions is what we're made of, or so many people seem to think. Marketers and advertising people (and I'm kind of one of them …) know how to use emotions, especially fake one, to make you open your purse. This works because we are so afraid of "losing" our emotions – which is not even possible.

Stoics want to get rid of negative emotions, not positive ones

There's a common misconception about Stoicism, which is that Stoics are trying to get rid of their emotions. This is wrong. What, especially the modern, Stoics are trying to do, is reducing the amount of negative emotions. To achieve a calm and ultimately happy mind.

In this episode we will look exactly at what positive and negative emotions are and what we can do to improve the quality of our lives.
