The term "medical necessity" is commonly used by occupational and physical therapists, but not so much by speech therapists. But speech therapists apply "medical necessity" in their practice the same as OTs and PTs. As a speech therapist, you have to be able to justify the services that you're prescribing to the insurance company, the school, or whoever is providing financial support for the services. Medical necessity in the speech therapy world falls heavily into two specific categories within the evaluation. In today's podcast, Haden Boliek SLP and Kjirsti Myles PT explore what medical necessity means to the speech therapist and how speech therapists appropriately justify therapeutic services for their patients.
