Can a church be firm under persecution but in danger of heresy? Yes! The church at Pergamos faced just such a danger. They had been firm and faithful when challenged by persecution from without, but they failed to see the danger of infiltration from the Nicolaitans. Christ callenges them to repent and to oppose this Satanic Fifth Column.…

On Remembrance Sunday we remember the dead of past wars, and sacrifices for freedom, but our attention must be most of all on the Lord Jesus Christ, his death, his victory, and the victory over death. Paul shows us the vision of Resurrection, the Victory of Christ, and the vitality it produces.Av Gervase Charmley

On Remembrance Sunday we think of the realities of war and the cost of peace. Isaiah gives us a vision of a world without war that is not simply a human aspiration, but a sure and certain hope, a promise from God. We see the Lord, the life, and the light.Av Gervase Charmley

Smyrna is a church of which no criticism is made. They were suffering and persecuted, and they were faithful. In them we see the challenge to be faithful unto death, trusting Christ and laying up riches in heaven.Av Gervase Charmley

The present evil age ends with the victory of God. In vision Ezekiel sees a picture of the final battle, and God vindicated. We see the finality of the battle, the feast that follows, and the favour of God to his redeemed.Av Gervase Charmley

The church at Ephesus was strong on zeal and discernment, but had allowed love to decline. So we are warned that both matter - we are called to speak the truth in love, after all. And it is only if we abide in Christ's love that we can truly work for him.Av Gervase Charmley
