The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. We cover Alma 24 - Alma 30 and dive into the definitive and climatic moment for the Ammonites, discuss the nature of war in the Book of Mormon, and lament over the tale of Korihor. This is part 1 of this week's episode. Bryan and Jordan had so much to say, there is a part 2 right after this episode!
We cover Alma 16 - Alma 23 and talk about the fainting, arm cutting, ponderizing, and other fun parts of serving a full-time mission. We cover Mosiah 21 through Mosiah 29 and talk about the unification of all the all of Mosiah’s friends, those wicked priests of Noah show up again, the two Ammons of the Book of Mormon, and our wish that annoying millennials would be struck down by an angel every time they “can’t even”.

Next week: Mosiah 10 - Mosiah 20.…
We cover Enos, Jarom, Omni, and the Words of Mormon and talk about the difference between the large plates (story) and the small plates (doctrine).
