Mars' station direct on February 23 has provided the martial impetus and the energy for our newly awakened inner warrior to rise up and take action to protect not only ourselves but those less able to defend & protect themselves. As it gains speed, however, Mars is currently giving us all even more reason to fight against the new U.S. administration’s attempts to eliminate diversity, equity, & inclusion in its military & to decimate our legal & other governmental foundations. Mars' influence became obvious with the recent firings of the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a Black man & the Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first woman to hold the post and the first female member of the Joint Chiefs. Mars full speed ahead also resulted in the firing of three judge advocates general, also known as “JAGs”--who provide independent legal advice to senior military officers so that they do not run afoul of U.S. law or the laws of armed conflict. The danger here lies with the fact that the current commander in chief of the armed forces is Donald Trump, who during his last administration wanted to use the military to shoot Black Lives Matter protestors. He is now setting the stage to be able to do exactly that—next time protestors take to the streets. Then there’s Venus stationing retrograde March 1 through April 12, when Venus will move back from Aries into Pisces. This is a period during which--according to Jungian astrologer Erin Sullivan in her book “Retrograde Planets”--we begin a time of global review. Between now and the inferior conjunction of the Aries Sun with Venus retrograde on March 22, & its heliacal rising March 28/29, is when “the reconsideration of what is diplomatic, & what is necessary to maintain a balanced world view & sense of integrity, is precisely what happens” to us both individually & collectively, Sullivan says. Both she and astrologer Bruce Scofield have predicted certain events may happen during this time—tune in to find out more! Mercury's entrance into Mars-ruled Aries March 3 adds some fuel to the fire of any backlash against what's happening now & what may occur during Venus's retrograde period. On March 11 the two will conjoin in Aries. Given that Mercury's communication & Venus rules finances, is it possible a budget reconciliation plan will be agreed upon & passed by the U.S. Congress before a looming shut down on March 14 when the first eclipse of the season hits? And might this budget plan cause even more distress as major portions of U.S. citizen's safety nets--be they Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, or simply your job as a federal employee or through a federally funded grant--be axed from the new budget? This podcast reviews also the deeper meaning of transiting Uranus in Taurus--as Venus, the current dispositor of Uranus, will retrograde through Mars-ruled Aries starting March 1—& we enter a period of review of our core values. We discuss how Uranus in Taurus since 2018 has changed our relationships to others, to our work/jobs, to our resources over time, and how Uranus, the planet of unexpected change, is headed back to conjoin “off with his head” fixed star Algol circa May 4. It's clear that heads have been rolling all over the place--both globally & domestically. It's clear now that the February 14 Leo Full Moon has awakened many to the fact that the Aquarius New Moon planted seeds allowing us to gain a new perspective. And that Uranus direct has led to the revelatory aha moments for which it’s known by the time the Leo Full Moon revealed how ideological ideas of “perfection” are difficult to manifest in the real world & that the sudden changes ruled by Uranus can cause trauma. And that unconventional government oversight based on idealistic notions by unelected people placed in positions of power now hold our future security in their hands. Further, the Leo Full Moon’s squares to Uranus in Taurus which opposed Juno (partner) in Scorpio resulted in the breaking apart of established partnerships in favor or new ones—especially those deemed more financially rewarding. By now, however, since Mercury entered Pisces on February 14 & the Sun followed on February 18--& as we waxed toward the February 20 third-quarter monthly lunar square (which astrologer Dane Rudhyar called the “crisis in consciousness” period)—we’ve understood how rapidly caused shock & trauma result in confusion. Further, by the time Sagittarius Moon squared the Pisces Sun & Mercury squared Jupiter February 20, we realized people (Moon=the people) had journeyed to their U.S. national & state Capitols (Sagittarius) to protest. Protest what? That the ”pie in the sky” visions of the ideological fundamentalists begun earlier this month now in charge of the U.S. Government have caused both individuals--and groups of people—actual harm through loss (Pisces Sun.) Now, as we approach next week’s Mars station retrograde in Cancer on February 23 & Mars begins to gather speed—in combination with this past month’s Aquarian awakening--we begin to realize that this retrograde period brought up from our unconscious what’s really most important to us on a deeper soul level. AND that THIS is what's rousing us out of our apathy to fight back against. As we begin to identify with our “inner warrior” we’ll experience the Pisces New Moon on February 27 with its waxing square to Jupiter & its pending trines to Mars, which the Sun completes on March 2 & 7, respectively. Greater empathy for those suffering in the "there, but for the grace of God, go I" are the seeds we are called to plant then. Meanwhile, Venus will station retrograde in Aries on March 1, while Mercury moves into Mars-ruled Aries March 3, as the U.S. Congress continues to argue over whether billionaires deserve additional tax cuts reliant on financial cuts to services for the average American citizen. Discussion includes how this past week’s Leo Full Moon exposed the plight of individuals against ideological notions of “a more perfect union” as the ongoing U.S. Pluto return reveals how corporate greed is rotting governmental foundations from the inside out. Pluto=other peoples’ money=taxpayer dollars. Pluto also=joint resources=federal loans & grants. In Uranus-ruled Aquarius, which Pluto will transit through until March 2043, it’s about transformation of joint resources due to ideological notions of a “more perfect union.” But Aquarius is an “of the people, by the people, for the people,” humanitarian archetypal notion. The kind that represents humanitarian advances in technology that make life better for us all. However, given that the effects of U.S. Pluto return--triggered initially @27’33” Capricorn in 2022—will last until about 2036 if history proves educational—it’s highly likely this period will culminate as a time of “power to the people.” It's just that it’s going to take a while to get there and it won’t happen without a fight. However, the signs of an infected U.S. governmental system—based on financial policies such as more deregulation, fiscal austerity, trickle down economics of the “starve the beast” kind—have burst through into consciousness during the new Trump administration. The February 9 Sun/Mercury conjunction in Aquarius, squares by the Aquarius Mercury & Sun to sudden change maker Uranus on February 10 & 11, & the February 12 Leo Full Moon, respectively, have brought alarm & consternation, but also additional clarity as these aspects highlight disenfranchisement of the individual. In addition, as the news continues to fly so fast and furiously that it’s hard to keep up, one fact stands out in stark relief. And that is that technology matters more than people. That’s because non-elected folks like billionaire Elon Musk continue to use AI to parse out what the tech bros describe as “waste & fraud” in the American Treasury Department’s systems of payments. With no oversight, they seem to be the only ones—along with newly appointed billionaires who now head major governmental cabinet posts—in charge of the U.S. payment system. And that includes not only humanitarian medical & food aid both at home & abroad, but Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, student loans, and much more. When oligarch wannabes steer the ship, it’s becoming easier to see that the final destination is NOT enhanced people power, but rather corporate power uber alles, which means “above everything else.” Will the upcoming entrance of Neptune into Aries on March 30 save us? What about when Saturn enters Aries on May 26 and the two planets run side by side in 2025 before they exact conjoin at the 0° Aries point on February 20, 2026. And how about the upcoming trine of Uranus—after it enters Gemini July 7—to Pluto in Aquarius, the effects of which we’ll begin to feel in 2025 and which will last through to 2029. There is no doubt, since the January 29 Aquarius New Moon & the direct stations of Uranus & Jupiter, that the news has been flying so fast and furiously that it’s been difficult to keep up most days unless you’re a diehard news addict. No wonder sudden shock (Uranus=sudden change) related to codified U.S. law (Jupiter=law, immigration, higher education, religion, philosophy, ethics & morals) has shaken many American’s faith in their governing systems. Venus represents who we value as partners, finances, and what we do to earn our money, a.k.a., work, or our “jobs.” And now, since Venus in Aries sextiled Pluto on February 7, these most unconventional—and many say illegal—orders out of President Trump’s White House have prompted legal push back. And the fight (Aries) over governmental finances, jobs, & between existig allies & trading partners (Venus) continues. The opportunity to fight back against Plutonic efforts to disempower people by imposing tariffs against allied trading partners, withholding funds from Americans, laying off government workers, discontinuing funding for charitable efforts, etc., has began to bear fruit, considering that a double-digit number of lawsuits have been filed to date. And word has it there will be more anon…after all, the Jupiter mission, now direct, is expansion, lol... We wait to see if there are any new major shocking announcements of the legal sort between now & February 9’s Aquarius Sun/Mercury conjunction, Mars/Saturn trine, February 10’s Mercury/Uranus square, & February 11’s Sun/Uranus square, as we head into the February 12’s Leo Full Moon. We do know that Trump's been experiencing a square from transiting Saturn in Pisces from his 7th House of partnership to his natal 10th House Gemini Uranus (which conjoins his Gemini North Node & Sun there), likely spurring his need to shock through unconventional pronouncements. Since several judges have stayed his Executive Orders on issues concerning U.S. birthright, stoppage of funding via USAID, lay-offs of federal workers, granting non elected individuals access to the Treasury Department's payment system, and more, to date, we may well have Saturn to thank. Especially since transiting Saturn will go on to exact square his natal Nodes, Sagittarius Moon, & Gemini Sun--all by April 12, we may see more delays or shut downs of these efforts. We shall see... This Leo Full Moon forms a fixed cross as the Leo Moon opposes the Aquarius Sun & both luminaries square Juno in Scorpio (the partner in the sign of joint resources) opposite Uranus (sudden change.) This period will likely shock even more people out of their complacency over Trump’s attempts to take a wrecking ball to America’s usual civil & legal structures. Some are calling this a coup from the inside, which puts a new slant on Trump’s “deep state” propaganda to mean that HE is the “deep state.” *(Well, it wouldn't be the first time that he is what he projects others to be, right?) Meanwhile, we delve into the meaning of the recent shift of the transiting nodal axis into a Virgo South Node & Pisces North Node, & take a look at the health implications (not only for the U.S. but for the world) since the Hygeia’s (asteroid goddess of health) conjoined with the dwarf planet Eris, the goddess of chaos & discord on January 9. This as we await whether the February 11 Senate voters confirm that RFK, Jr., will become our next U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services. This, as wounded healer Chiron in Aries (wound around the previous inability to take action or to be proactive) heads toward its exact conjunction with Eris on May 26. As horrifying as is this midair collision—with no known survivors—Uranus has certainly made his influence known on both a literal & symbolic level. Uranus is, after all, like tarot card The Tower, which symbolizes sudden change…Do we NEED a revolution here in the U.S.? JOIN SHERI HORN HASAN @ KARMIC EVOLUTION DOT COM FOR THIS WEEK’S “KARMIC EVOLUTION’S ASTROLOGICALLY SPEAKING PODCAST which discusses how this month’s lunar cycle & America’s Pluto Return have revealed America’s shadow side energies… Do the results of the November 5 U.S. presidential election—which occurred during the early waxing period of November 1’s Scorpio New Moon—prove that America’s projections onto winner Donald Trump represent America’s Pluto Return, a time of the death of democracy to be followed by some kind of rebirth? This podcast examines the journey of America’s Pluto return, which technically began when transiting Pluto came within a degree of its natal 2nd House place at 27-degrees 33-minutes of Capricorn on May 21, 2021. This followed the January 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., which marks the beginning of America’s transformation. We explore the history of the birth of America through the lens of the beginning of the Revolutionary War—fought for freedom from the tyranny of the British monarchy/king--& the U.S. Sibly chart’s July 4, 1775, Declaration of Independence. Along the way we discuss how this recent election has thrust a large portion of the American population into shock & disbelief of the PTSD kind. And how, given Pluto’s archetypal association with the necessity of a breakdown in order to breakthrough--or the alchemical process of death leading to rebirth—we are in the first stages of dealing with the potential death of democracy. We explore too Carl Jung’s definition of the Plutonian alchemical process which begins by consciously recognizing our shadow projections. Often a shocking revelation, this provokes the break down all the way through to until we reach the stage of of individuation & ultimately what Jung called “authentic personification.” That means engaging in the process of becoming--then ultimately BEING--who we really came here to be. This process is neither easy nor painless, as history has already proven. And it’s often change that begets more change. That is what revolutions are born from. People take the streets when their lives are personally impacted. As Saturn stations direct once again on November 15—the same day of the Taurus Full Moon which aligns itself with Uranus retrograde in Taurus (signifying a sudden potential change of heart) & opposes the Scorpio Sun—will we eventually recognize the need to release this shadow side energy? Or will circumstances have to get far worse as the shadow energy expands until some kind of future action is taken? We are in the period of the birth of America, which spanned from 1775 to 1789 during which period a war was fought, independence was gained, a Constitution written, a president inaugurated, and a justice system incorporated through the seating of a Supreme Court. In essence, if history is our guide, America’s Pluto return has just begun. When transiting Uranus moves into Gemini July 7, 2025, & begins to conjoin its natal place at 8-degrees 55-minutes of Gemini in the U.S. Sibly chart in 2027, history has proved the U.S. tends to enter wars. First, of course, the American Revolution; second, the American Civil War; and third, World War II. These have tended to occur as each 84-year cycle of Uranus ended and a new one began. This podcast reminds us all that America has shown its true face: that of indifference to the inequities inherent in its democratic system of governance. Racism, misogyny, & xenophobia are not new here. They have simply been hidden from view all this time within the mainstream of society. This current Pluto Return is bringing these hidden shadow energies to the forefront & revealing them for all to see. So, when a deportation crew comes for our neighbor, will we remain silent? When they come for our teachers & librarians will we remain silent? When they come for our governor or senator or representative, will we remain silent? And when they then come for YOUR undocumented spouse, will YOU remain silent? When they come for your Arab-American son-in-law, will you remain silent? And when they come for YOU, who will be left? And so it goes, as history repeats itself—or at least rhymes--over and over and over again. While initially shocking & depressing for many of us, this recent election will undoubtedly spark change--possibly through a societal revolution that leads to war, if that is the only way to effect long-term future change. That’s Pluto, my friends… And while that may seem to some far-fetched and to others far off, the seeds have been planted and it’s this Scorpio monthly lunar cycle that cries out to us to plant the seeds that help us recognize the TRUTH about what America has become. First we look back at what’s been revealed to us with stark clarity this past week since Mercury in Scorpio opposed Taurus Rx in Uranus October 30. Was this aspect of sudden shocking & surprising statements the real “October surprise” leading up to this year’s U.S. presidential election? We’ll discuss whether, as Mars in Cancer waxes toward its exact opposition to Pluto in Capricorn November 3, the angry racist, xenophobic, & misogynist rhetoric made by a presidential candidate & his supporters will change the outcome of the November 5 U.S. presidential election. This may prove true as Uranus retrograde in Taurus asks us to continue to review & re-evaluate our basic values, especially now based on what prominent people say. History often rhymes, & the current atmosphere bears close similarity to the “October surprise” from October 28, 2016, when a late in the game announcement by then FBI Director James Comey changed the direction of the November 8 election’s outcome that year. In addition, this podcast compares the astrology of the GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s October 27 rally at NYC’s Madison Square Garden with the pro-Nazi rally held there on February 20, 1939, & find some not so subtle similarities. Hint: This time transiting Mars in Cancer is opposing both transiting Pluto AND the U.S. natal Pluto in the Sibly chart’s 8th & 2nd Houses, respectively. Back in 1939, transiting Pluto in Cancer in the U.S.’s 8th H opposed not only its natal 2nd H position but also transiting Juno in Capricorn there, the goddess asteroid of “the wife” or partnership. Perfect scenario for pissing off those who may formerly have supported you, eh? We look also at how Trump’s continuing misogynist rhetoric, including the Mars opposite Pluto type recent statement that he will protect women “whether they like it or not” will spawn a “hell that no fury like a woman scorned” tsunami at the polls. This is entirely possible, now that Trump’s 3rd H progressed Scorpio Moon is less than a degree away from an exact square to his natal 12th House Leo Pluto. The simple definition? “Trouble with women!” Meanwhile, the question becomes whether we’ve heeded the October 2 Libra New Moon solar eclipse’s request to plant seeds that blossom into us all becoming our own best partner before seeking external ones. First we review what went down during the balsamic period of last month’s lunar cycle, then discuss the August 4 Leo New Moon & Mercury’s station retrograde in Virgo from the lens of the upcoming American presidential election. Could it be that Mercury retrograde in Virgo asks us to reevaluate our attitude toward whether or not a woman can be president? Especially given that Virgo’s traditionally an archetypal sign representing, among other things, the girl next door & “the virgin” (which of course applies to females and not males in this patriarchal world we’ve been living in for so long.) Next we look at the energies inherent in the upcoming new synodic cycle when Mars meets Jupiter in Gemini & Mercury retrograde reenters Leo August 14.
