Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “A Wonderful Walk,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 9:52 A Wonderful Walk Excerpt: As the bright sun shone through the garage window, Winona, the little Red Wagon, smiled, feeling grateful for her cozy home in the garage. Winona admired the white stripe racing down her side as it shimmered in the morning light. Suddenly, she heard a little rumble and eagerly turned to see the garage door slowly rolling up. The little wagon hoped she would go out for a ride today. The wagon blinked, her eyes adjusting, as sunshine poured in. Then she saw the children, a brother and sister, waiting for the garage door to finish opening. Gus Goldfinch discovers a rooftop window and decides to have some fun! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 4:03 Finch Fun Excerpt: Gus flew over a neighborhood he visited quite frequently. He saw familiar houses. Many neighbors were out and about on this beautiful day. Kids played in their backyards. Adults hung their laundry to dry or grilled on the barbecue. Gus smiled to see the way everyone was enjoying the nice weather. As he flew, a glint caught Gus’s eye, something he had never noticed before in all the times he’d soared over this neighborhood. There, on the roof of a little brick house, was something shiny and round. It looked smooth, almost like a tiny pond, but with no water and no ripples. Just a gleam of reflected sunlight. Helen and her friends Brianna and Rogelio are painting together, but painting can get messy. Hello everyone! We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “A Creative Mess,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 8:30 A Creative Mess Excerpt: Helen stopped painting for a moment to admire her art. She was painting a picture of her house, her family, and her dog. A big, bright orange sun lit up the upper right corner of the painting. Green grass dotted with flowers filled the yard in the front of the house. To the side of the house, Helen had painted her family and her dog. Painting people and animals was more difficult than houses and flowers, Helen thought. But still, she was pleased with how everything was looking. She especially liked that her house in the painting had a bright red door. In real life, her house’s door was brown. Helen always wanted to have a bright red front door, but her parents didn’t think that was necessary. But that’s one reason why Helen liked painting so much — she could make things whatever color she wanted! If she wanted a blue sun and a purple moon, then she would paint a blue sun and a purple moon! Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe. When the contractor announces the day’s project, Constance the concrete mixer repeats the same spinning thoughts in her mind. How will she get unstuck? Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:24 Spinning Thoughts Excerpt: Constance heard footsteps outside the garage door. The garage door began to rise with a low rumble, letting the sunshine in. When her driver opened her door and started her engine, Constance could barely contain her excitement. She couldn’t wait to learn what today’s assignment was. She was pretty sure she’d heard the contractor say that they would be making a driveway today. Driveways were one of Constance’s favorite projects. Constance felt her wheels gently turn as her driver guided her outside. Soon, the sound of more engines filled the yard as other construction vehicles were guided out of their garages. Dory and Drevan, the dump trucks, rolled up beside Constance. Today’s Meditation: Picture floating in the safe and comforting waters of a tranquil pool. Daichiki Dolphin makes a surprising new friend in the Ahway Island cove! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:40 Floatie Friend Excerpt: Daichiki Dolphin drifted near the surface of the water, watching the light dance beneath him. The sunshine made beautiful patterns that twinkled on the sandy bottom. Feeling energetic, the little dolphin twirled in a circle and then did a flip, leaping out of the water. When he came back down with a splash, Daichiki looked around to see if anyone saw his neat trick. Nope. No one seemed to be watching. Daichiki peered over to where his dolphin pod liked to rest. Sure enough, most of his friends were relaxing. Some were floating peacefully with their eyes half-closed, while others were slowly paddling in sleepy circles. Well, Dragon had gotten their wish – it was a snowy day. In fact, it was so snowy that the entrance to the cave was completely blocked! Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Songs in the Air,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 9:34 Songs in the Air Excerpt: White puffy clouds dotted the pale blue sky. The air was starting to warm as a soft breeze blew across the sky. Now that the weather was getting warm and spring was on its way, many large flocks of geese were flying back to their summer homes on Ahway Island, after spending the winter months in other places. There were many geese families amongst the flocks. Each family flew in the shape of the letter “V,” which made it easier for the younger geese to fly for long distances. The wind was strongest at the front of the “V,” so usually one of the parents would fly in the front, and then the children would fly behind. Babette Bunny and Peanut Squirrel go to check on the chestnut seed they planted a few weeks ago. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:13 Kindness Takes Root Excerpt: Babette loved springtime. She loved Summer, Autumn, and Winter, too – but Spring! Spring had a special magic to it. Birds sang cheery tunes, celebrating their return from a winter vacation. Colorful, fragrant flowers bloomed all around. Streams babbled and bubbled, full of rainwater from the spring showers. New green growth pushed up everywhere in the forest, reaching toward the warm sunshine. Everything felt fresh and alive. Seeing the short, green sprouts poking up from the ground jogged Babette’s memory. She remembered the special morning months ago when she, Peanut squirrel, and Odin owl had planted a tiny chestnut seed in the open field by the creek. They had tucked it into the soft earth, gave it a drink of water, and whispered kind words, hoping it would grow big and strong. To her surprise, her little boy came in carrying a white laundry basket. A little bit of fog rolled in at his feet. What could he be carrying? The little boy knelt down next to Winona. Helen’s brother Miles wants to grow a garden in the backyard. There’s just one problem: Helen doesn’t like vegetables! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:17 Backyard Garden Excerpt: Winter on Ahway Island was finally nearing its end, and the first whispers of spring were beginning. Soft sunshine melted the last bits of snow, and the ground was waking up from its long winter nap. Birds and animals began stirring about, and the bravest flowers had started to poke themselves out of the cold earth for the first time in many months. Even the humans were getting ready for spring. At Helen’s house, Helen found her older brother Miles sitting at the kitchen table, sketching something on a piece of paper. Curious, Helen peeked over his shoulder. “What’s that?” she asked. Miles turned the paper so Helen could see. “It’s my garden plan!” he said. “Mom said I can make a garden in the backyard, and I’m figuring out what I want to plant.” Today’s Meditation: Relax as you imagine sunlight warming you as you lie in a grassy meadow. Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Gloomy Day Fun,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 8:49 Gloomy Day Fun Excerpt: It was a gloomy afternoon on Ahway Island. The sun was shining behind the clouds, of course, but nobody on the island could see it, because there were too many clouds in the way. It wasn’t really cold, but the air was heavy, as if the clouds wanted to rain down on the ground below but just weren’t quite ready yet. The world just felt a little dreary and as if everything was just…waiting for something. Serena and her friends were sleeping on some big rocks in the water not far from the shoreline. They had felt listless in the morning and had decided to take a nap. Now, the tide was starting to come in, and the water rose higher and higher against the rocks until at last, suddenly, a wave swept up over the rock and all over Serena’s body. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:40 Penguin Palace Excerpt: On this particular morning, the air felt heavy and thick. Paula looked up at the sky and noticed dark clouds gathering on the horizon, far out over the ocean. She saw a group of seagulls flying quickly overhead, heading inland. Dragon meets Bruce the Dog, and tries to help him follow a scent trail. Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:29 Dragon’s Scentsational Day Excerpt: The day was nearly perfect, Dragon thought, while lumbering along the forest trail. The pine needles felt spongy beneath Dragon’s feet, and they cast a fresh scent in the air. Blips of sunlight dappled the ground and appeared to glitter as the tree branches swayed in the delicate breeze. In the distance, Dragon noticed the incessant chirp of a red winged blackbird amidst a chorus of frogs. Dragon glanced down, and immediately spotted a trail of industrious ants, some carrying items far bigger than their tiny bodies. Ducking down to observe the colony more closely, Dragon smiled. For being such miniscule creatures, the ants were one of the hardest working inhabitants of the Ahway Island Forest. They lifted objects that were many times bigger than they were and carried them over long distances, working as a team to build their nest and feed their community. This was the first time she had had a friend over to play at her house, other than her cousins, of course. Would Helen like her house? Would her mom and dad like Helen? What if Helen got bored? Grubby Kitty finds a fun roll of paper when his humans aren’t home. How will they react to the mess? Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:33 Playful Paper Excerpt: The warm sunshine sparkled through the window as Grubby Kitty leaned his front paws on the glass. Outside, a pair of yellow butterflies fluttered among the garden flowers. Grubby’s bright blue eyes followed the insects as they flitted about. Eventually, one came to land on the ledge just outside the window. Grubby stared at the butterfly with twitching whiskers. The butterfly’s wings opened and closed slowly, as if waving hello to the little kitty. Grubby gave a soft, friendly meow in return. Sunlight streamed through the clear and shallow waters, the light causing the ocean to sparkle beautifully all around her. Tanya’s favorite fish were the parrot fish. They had bright green tails, little multi-colored flippers, and their blue mouths looked just like beaks. The first time the little sea turtle saw a parrot fish, she almost giggled because it looked so much like a parrot! But she didn’t want to hurt the fish’s feelings so she kept her giggles inside. Wakely Water Scooter is having a tough time staying still, but he gets some advice from his friends to help. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:50 A Day at the Dock Excerpt: Wakely Water Scooter bobbed gently next to the lake dock, still secured with a rope. Just yesterday, Wakely’s family brought him out of storage and onto the lake. Wakely smiled as he remembered the fun he’d had zooming across its surface, splashing through waves, and feeling the wind rush past him. Wakely was eager to get out and go zooming once again, but his rider wasn’t here yet, so all he could do was float. At first, Wakely didn’t mind. The water rocked him gently, back and forth, back and forth. The warmth of the sun felt nice on his metal sides. The sound of the waves was enjoyable. Rebel, Rob, and Riley Raccoon noticed Ballet Bunny’s snow roses and want to create their own. The little bunny follows them to their den to help. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:12 Raccoon Roses Excerpt: The little bunny looked out from under the shelter of the cozy pine and grinned. The world was quiet, white, and sparkly. Snow had fallen yesterday, and Ballet had used the fresh blanket to recreate her garden of snow roses. Some were big, round blooms, and some were little buds, but they all stood in a circle around her tree. Ballet loved looking at her snowy roses. They reminded her of summer. As Ballet gazed at them, she imagined the warmth of the sun on her fur, the soft petals brushing against her nose, and the sweet scent filling the air. Even though winter was cold, her snow roses shimmered in the morning light, just as lovely as real flowers. Rain falls in the forest, filling up Brooke, the little stream. But then she has an idea for what to do with all the fresh water! Hello everyone! We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “The New Waterfall” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 11:15 The New Waterfall Excerpt: The sound of rain pitter-pattering filled the air, as the clouds slowly released their drops of water over the lush green forest. Raindrops were falling everywhere. All the animals scurried to find places to stay dry and listen to the rain. Most of the animals loved the sound of falling rain. It was so comforting! The sound was so soothing that the little bunnies curled up together under a pine tree to take a nap. The squirrels found it fun to watch the drops fall onto the ground. For the lively squirrels, it was especially fun to watch the rain splash into the puddles and into the stream that flowed gently through the cozy forest. The stream’s name was Brooke, and all the animals loved her very much. They always felt grateful to her for the fresh water she gave them to drink, for the scenic beauty she gave to the forest, and for the lovely music of her rushing waters. Today, Brooke herself was feeling refreshed as the newly fallen rain filled her banks. In fact, she was beginning to feel a little full now – a little too full, actually. It had been raining a lot lately. What could she do? The water was nearly at the top of her banks. Today’s Meditation: Imagine floating in a tranquil pool, safe and relaxed, as the water rocks you gently. Looking for stories that emphasize acceptance, understanding, and empathy? Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:26 Sunrise Dragon Excerpt: Dragon landed on the soft sand and took a few steps. It felt so nice between Dragon’s toes! Dragon wiggled them deeper into the sand and smiled. The sun was now starting to peek over the horizon. The pink and orange of the sky reflected in the ocean’s surface. What a majestic sight! Dragon was grateful to have woken up early enough to see the sunrise. Dragon relaxed on the beach, taking in the gorgeous view as the waves crashed on the sand. The beach was peaceful yet energized at the same time in the early morning light. Glancing down, Dragon noticed there was something blue that was almost buried in the sand, right next to them. Dragon ponders what it would be like to be different things around Ahway Island. Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:33 Unique Dragon Excerpt: Dragon sat quietly, and their mind began to wander. What would it be like to be something other than a dragon? Like a butterfly? Or a bee? It was an interesting thought. After all, being curious about others was one of Dragon’s favorite things. Dragon looked around, eyes drifting across the path and landing on a large mailbox. Someone approached the mailbox, opened the top and slid a letter inside. Dragon wondered what it would be like to be a mailbox, receiving and storing important letters until the postal carrier could pick them up and bring them to the post office. It seemed like being a mailbox would be a lot of fun. Today’s Meditation: Imagine drawing gentle shapes in the soothing sand as you relax before today’s story. A new sproutling thinks living in the library will be boring, but the wise fern demonstrates how to learn by observing. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:59 Library Lessons Excerpt: “So…what did you observe?” the fern asked. The little sproutling thought for a moment. “Well…I saw that the first girl on the left side of the room believed she could do her assignment, and she’s doing great! But the second girl, on the right side of the room, thinks the assignment is too hard for her, and she got stuck.” “You’re very observant,” the fern whispered back. “The thoughts we think are like the soil we’re planted in. When the soil is rich and strong, we grow tall and healthy. But if the soil is dry and weak, growing is much harder. It’s just the same with the way we speak to ourselves.” Today’s Meditation: Relax as you imagine you are a baby penguin snuggled close to its papa. Dragon wakes up to a snowy forest. Everything is so peaceful you can hear the icicles drip. Dragon decides to go for a walk to explore. Hello everyone! We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Snowy Memories,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 9:36 Snowy Memories Excerpt: As the sun barely peeked over the horizon the sound of gentle snoring floated out of Dragon’s cave. Slowly, the lovely light flowed across the land. Shadows of the bare trees fell across the snowy forest floor. The floor of the cozy cave warmed as sunshine spilled into Dragon’s home and gradually rose up onto Dragon’s mossy bed. The gentle snoring of the little dragon stopped as the sunlight reached Dragon’s eyelids. Dragon blinked and squinted into the morning sun. With a smile, Dragon stretched and sat up. Dragon took a deep dragon breath, in and out, to get ready for a wonderful morning. As Dragon’s feet touched the warm floor, Dragon sighed happily, feeling grateful. The morning sun had already warmed the floor, even though it was a cool winter morning. Dragon stood up and walked back to the cool spring pool in the cave, wanting a refreshing drink of water. Sunshine sparkled on the rippling surface as Dragon scooped up a bit to drink. Today’s Meditation: Imagine floating on a cloud, and relax into the feeling of lightness. Dharma Dragonfly wants to go to the pond. Bobbi Butterfly wants to go to the garden. Who will Letitia Ladybug go with? Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:32 The Perfect Place Excerpt: The morning sun made the clouds above Ahway Island look pink and gold. Little dewdrops sparkled like diamonds on the grass, and the neighborhood birds had just begun their cheery songs. Dharma Dragonfly stretched her delicate wings, admiring how well they shimmered in the golden sunlight. The warm breeze felt wonderful as she zipped through the air. Dharma soared past houses and gardens, occasionally doing little loop-de-loops just for fun. As she flew over a quiet yard, Dharma spotted two of her friends. Bobbi Butterfly flitted gracefully from petal to petal in the small flower bed, while Letitia Ladybug lazed about on one of the flower’s broad, green leaves. Dharma flew over to them and hovered in the air. Today’s Meditation: Imagine drawing gentle shapes in the soothing sand as you relax before today’s story. When Sidney Snow Plow’s garage door gets stuck, he tries to have fun while waiting. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:59 Patient Plow Excerpt: Sidney the Snow Plow woke up to a loud clunking noise. He blinked sleepily and looked around his cozy garage. Light slipped through the cracks of the big garage door, but something was a bit different. The door wiggled a little, making a thunk, thunk sound, but it wasn’t rolling up like it usually did. Sidney noticed the bottom of the door wasn’t letting any light through. He squinted at the little sliver of white he could see outside. “I wonder if I’ll be going out today,” he thought. Then, he heard Marta, his driver, just outside the door. She sounded a little frustrated. “It’s completely frozen!” Marta said with a sigh. Today’s Meditation: Love flows through you in this meditation as you imagine a baby fawn and mama deer. Wilbur Dog hears a mysterious noise outside and is determined to investigate! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 3:54 Morning Mystery Excerpt: It was a peaceful morning on Ahway Island. A cool breeze slipped around the drapes and into the bedroom. The wind flowed over the bed, filling the room with the scent of freshly-fallen leaves. On the bed, Wilbur, a big brown dog with floppy ears, stretched his legs and gave a long, contented sigh. He was happy. But suddenly, a sound interrupted the peace. Thunk! Wilbur’s ears twitched.
