Today’s podcast is a continuation of the message that Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, was teaching in the previous episode. We’ve included the last couple minutes of that podcast and now we will hear the conclusion of that message as Tory continues to look at the interactive nature of salvation. Here is Part of 7 of What’s So Great About Salvation.…
In this series on What’s So Great About Salvation, Tory has been teaching that we are saved to life, community and authority. Today, Tory continues his focus on being saved to life as he takes us through Romans 5 and the reality of salvation being an interactive relationship with God. Here is Tory with What’s So Great about Salvation, Part 6.…
We are in the middle of a series called What’s So Great About Salvation. Today Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continues his teaching on the life we are saved to. Here is Tory with What’s So Great about Salvation, Part 5.
We are in the middle of a series called What’s So Great About Salvation. We have learned that in salvation we are saved from the penalty of our sin: judgment and death. But that is not the complete story. Today, Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continues his teaching by giving an introduction to three things we are saved to: life, authority and community. Here is Tory with What’s So Great about Salvation, Part 4.…
What is the gospel message? Today, Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continues his teaching on What’s So Great About Salvation by walking us through a definition of the gospel that encompasses all of the passages referencing gospel in the New Testament, and that helps us understand that the love that Jesus Christ has for us, is the same love that God the Father has towards us. Here is Tory with What’s So Great about Salvation Part 3.…
In our last podcast, Tory talked about from what are we being saved. Today, Tory takes time to recap those main points, and then introduces to what are we being saved. As believers we understand we are being saved from sin and will go to heaven some day and have eternal life. But what really is the gospel? Tory intimates that it is much bigger than what we have been commonly taught. Here is Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continuing his teaching on What’s So Great About Salvation Part 2.…
In our last podcast Tory introduced What’s So Great About Salvation, and this week he goes deeper into what it means to be saved and from what we are being saved. Here is Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries.
As believers we can get caught in a kind of short-hand of thinking and speaking about salvation: Jesus saved us and we will go to heaven. These next few podcasts we will take time to consider salvation. We will look at the need for salvation, the means of salvation, and consider these questions: From what are we being saved, and to what are we being saved? Today Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, gives an introduction to What’s So Great About Salvation.…
Imparting knowledge from one person to another takes communication. This can seem like an easy task, but in reality, there are layers of complexity that make communication challenging. We experience this in our homes with those we live with, with friends, and with coworkers. Even when speaking the same language, we can easily have misunderstandings. Arriving at correct knowledge from God’s communication to us in His Word has its challenges as well. Today, Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, talks about the nature of communication, and the challenges of language, assumptions, and our own will.…
The salvation that is offered us through believing Jesus Christ is greater than being saved physically and somehow continuing our existence after we die. Ephesians 2 talks of salvation as we were dead in our trespasses, but now we are alive with Christ. In today’s podcast we are listening to a recording of Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, teaching on salvation and what it means to be spiritually alive.…
Today’s podcast is taken from a message that Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries gave in Sri Lanka. We have edited out the translation, although you will occasionally hear spots where Tory and the translator overlap. Here is Tory speaking on the Life of Prayer.
This is our final episode in our 7-part series titled Dealing with Desire. Today Tory will wrap up with a recap of where we have been, and then take a deeper look at purifying the heart. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, teaching part 7 of Dealing with Desire.
Matthew 6:21 says, “Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” And as Tory talks about in today’s message, what we treasure is the direct result of the ideas that we hold. Today Tory challenges us to ask the Lord to show us ideas that we have adopted that are contrary to Him and what He wants us to desire. Once we take inventory of what ideas we are holding onto, then we can start the process of renewing the mind--removing destructive images and ideas and replacing them with the mind of Christ. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, teaching Part 6 of Dealing with Desire.…
Today is part 5 in our series Dealing with Desire. What we think about things shapes our overarching belief system and how we live. The ideas we hold to that become the fabric of what we believe and act on are often internalized without us even assessing them carefully. Today Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, continues his teaching on Dealing with Desire, taking a look at what ideas are, and how images play a role in delivering ideas to us.…
Renewing our mind is part of living by faith, and something God calls us to in dealing with desire. As believers we have the Spirit of Christ indwelling us. That does not mean that we automatically are freed from evil desires. But it does mean that we are freed to be able to allow God to work in us and transform our desires. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, teaching on the process of renewing the mind in part 4 of our series Dealing with Desire.…
Today we continue our series Dealing with Desire. There is a natural progression to dealing with desire and having real transformation. Oftentimes we focus first on our physical body, what we should or shouldn’t do, and then get discouraged and frustrated when we don’t get lasting transformation. But this is the last step. We need to start with setting our hearts and minds on Christ. We can’t make ourselves do what is right unless our hearts are purified. We won’t have purified hearts until we renew our minds and let God reorient us to what is good. And in order to renew our minds, we first need a heart of submission to God. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, continuing his teaching in part 3 of Dealing With Desire.…
Today we are back with part 2 of our series Dealing with Desire. As believers we are connected to the source that is life, Jesus Christ. And we have the resources to deal with desire appropriately. But the time to strategize and act comes before we are being tempted and in the middle of a situation. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, in a recording from Caravan Fellowship, teaching about the nature of desire, the interconnectedness of the human will, mind, and feelings, and what the solution is to overcoming ungodly desires.…
What is desire? What is temptation? What is God's part in transforming us so we don’t sin, and what responsibility do we have? Today we start a new 7 part series. Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, will address these questions and more as he takes us through a biblical view of desire and how we should deal with it. Here is Tory teaching at Caravan Fellowship in Part 1 of Dealing with Desire.…
In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus is establishing a group with authority and ability to carry out a task, and in the process of doing that they will be acting as His agent. They will be working in cooperation with Him and using His resources. This is the church of Jesus Christ. We have spent 8 sessions on a journey learning about what Tory calls the Co-Missional church. What is the Church? What is the purpose and function of the church? How does the church operate? And what habitat is necessary for it to grow? Today, Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, wraps up Co-Missional Church by giving a review and then starting a little brainstorming into practical action points that might help the church grow in love and unity, fostering the type of community necessary to achieve intentional obedience to the teachings of Christ. And this obedience is the desired outcome for the fulfillment of the Great Commission.…
We are currently in the middle of our series, Co-Missional Church. In today’s podcast, Tory discusses the activity of the Church which needs to be driven by a right vision of the church. Here is Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, teaching at Caravan Fellowship in part 8 of Co-Missional Church.…
Today we are in part 7 of our series Co-Missional Church. Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continues his teaching looking at growing as the body of Christ, and operating in the name of Jesus.
If you are just joining us, this is part 6 in our series Co-Missional Church. Today, Tory takes a closer look at what it means to gather in the name of Jesus. We can expect that He will work through us, His church, to carry out His will when we gather in His name. And when we operate under His authority, by His power, in unity, the church will be built up. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, teaching at Caravan Fellowship.…
We are in the middle of a series called Co-Missional Church in which Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, is teaching on the purpose and function of the church. In today’s message, we see that Jesus lived the example we are to follow. Just as Jesus did nothing on His own, but only the will of the Father, so we, the church of Jesus, are to operate under His authority, in the same vibrant relationship with Jesus that He displayed with the Father, to do the will of God here on earth. Here is Tory, teaching at Caravan Fellowship in Part 5 of Co-Missional Church.…
Each type of life has its own ecosystem and habitat suited for its growth and well-being. The eternal kind of life is no different. And just as our body is the natural host for our mortal kind of life, so the relationship of believers in Christ, interacting in the power of the Holy Spirit, is the natural host for the eternal kind of life. Today is part 4 of Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continuing his teaching on Co-Missional Church at Caravan Fellowship.…
When we talk about church, there is often confusion about the identity of the church and the function of the church. In today’s podcast, Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries clarifies what the church is in part 3 of our series, Co-Missional Church.
We each, as believers, have been given a different type of life than our mortal type of life. It is an eternal—an immortal—type of life and will remain forever. That life needs to have a habitat that is conducive to it, and the purpose for which the church was created was to provide that habitat. Today Tory is talking about what the church is along with its purpose and function. The Church is not an organization, but rather a living organism. And once we understand this key idea we can then look at what habitat is needed for the church to thrive. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, teaching at Caravan Fellowship in Co-Missional Church Part 2.…
In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus is establishing a group with authority and ability to carry out a task, and in the process of doing that they will be acting as His agent. They will be working in cooperation with Him and using His resources. Today we are starting a series called Co-Missional Church. The book of Matthew ends with Jesus’ words that have come to be called The Great Commission. More than just a directive to the first disciples 2000 years ago, this is meant for us as well. Yet in a much deeper and exciting way than just a vague understanding that we should probably be out doing evangelizing somewhere. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries teaching at Caravan Fellowship in part 1 of Co-Missional Church.…
God is the one who has designed us, and He has uniquely created us. He knows how we fit in this plan He has made. So instead of living a life that is all about us and our tiny little realm, we get to live one that is part of a really big story. One that has eternal significance. One that has meaning for something much bigger than ourselves. And all of a sudden, we start finding that, “This is what I was made for!” It’s exciting—we get to be a part of something really big! Today is the 5th and final part of the Life-Giving Gospel series. This recording is of Charis Nordlund teaching on Mission and Church at Country Faith Church in Bemidji, MN. Charis is the wife of Nathan Nordlund, a pastor at Country Faith Church, and daughter to Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries.…
In this 4th part of the Life-Giving Gospel series, Charis Nordlund talks about citizenship in the Kingdom of God. As believers, we have been rescued out of the kingdom of darkness and brought into the Kingdom of God. We are adopted as children of God and have His Spirit indwelling us. Yet, we don’t automatically have perfect understanding. We need to grow in our knowledge and relationship with the King, and put everything under his rule as He teaches us how to live in His Kingdom. Here is Charis Nordlund teaching at Country Faith Church in Bemidji, MN.…
With the good news of the Kingdom of God, we have a choice set before us. Whose kingdom do we want to belong to? In this 3rd part of the Life-Giving Gospel series, the two kingdoms are contrasted—the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. What are the rulers like? What are the resources available to us? And what is the culture of each kingdom? If you haven’t actively chosen who you belong to, this is a good time to consider your life and, we hope, be blessed by what God is offering you. Here is Charis Nordlund, continuing her teaching at Country Faith Church in Bemidji, MN.…
We are going through a series called The Life-Giving Gospel. Another way of saying Gospel is “Good news”. Do we live lives as though we really have good news? In this 2nd episode, Charis gives a more concrete understanding of what the Kingdom of God is in a way that helps us appreciate the good news of the arrival and availability of the Kingdom of God to us. Charis Nordlund is the wife of Nathan Nordlund, a pastor at Country Faith Church in Bemidji, MN, and daughter of Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries.…
Many Christians may think about the Gospel as Jesus dying for our sins. Yet, Jesus preached the gospel even before he died on the cross. What was it that Jesus preached? And is this the same gospel that we as believers are sharing today? We will look at these questions and more in this new series called The Life-Giving Gospel that Charis Nordlund taught at Country Faith Church in Bemidji, MN. Charis is the daughter of Tory Bjorklund (President of TRC Ministries) and is married to Nathan Nordlund, a pastor at Country Faith Church. For further study, here is a link to the youtube video Compelled: Speaking and Living the Gospel-Tim Mackie (The Bible Project) . Charis referenced a part of this video in her original message which is not included in this podcast.…
In our last session of What is Faith we learned that faith in Christ is putting our confidence in the person of Christ and what He says. The result of this will be to obey Him. If we find, however, that obedience has become a burden, it’s a good time to evaluate what we are truly believing. Today, Tory will continue his teaching on faith--what God’s role is and what our responsibility is in aligning ourselves with the truth He gives us. Here’s Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, teaching at Caravan Fellowship in this 3rd and final part of the What is Faith series.…
Faith in Jesus is putting our complete trust and confidence in Him. You cannot say you have complete confidence and trust in someone if you don't think their advice is good advice! But when we actually believe that Jesus knew what he was talking about, that faith allows us to evaluate the world around us and our circumstances differently and act accordingly. Here is Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continuing his teaching at Caravan Fellowship on What is Faith Part 2.…
What is Faith? As believers we may easily be able to recite, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” Acts 16:31. And that is true! But what do we mean by that? If we think our salvation depends on what we do, then we have veered off into the ditch of performance. Or if we are so confident that our relationship with God has nothing to do with us that we don’t really pay attention to how we are living in light of who God is and what He values, then we have veered off into the other ditch of apathy. Here is Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, teaching on what faith is and how we can avoid the pitfalls of both performance and apathy.…
Surrendering our lives to God is the only option for true life. Today Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, will talk about what surrender is, why it is so vital to putting on the easy yoke that Jesus offers, and three ways that Jesus Himself demonstrated surrendering. Because of technical difficulties during recording, this is our final episode on Putting on the Easy Yoke.…
In order to have a healthy relationship with someone, you have to trust them. What are the key components of trust, and how does this relate to our relationship with God? Today we are in part 8 or our 12part series called Putting on the Easy Yoke. Tory Bjorklund, President of TRC Ministries, shows us what the components of trust are, how God has given us what we need to trust Him, and how Satan tries to deceive us into NOT trusting God.…
How would you live life if you truly believed that God loved you personally? In order to understand and accept the life that Jesus offers us, we first need to understand and accept that he loves us. In this episode, Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, shares more in-depth from his story on how he came to believe that God did not want him, and the truth from God’s Word that changed his mind. May it encourage you to understand more fully God’s love and redemptive work in your own life. Here is Tory, continuing his teaching at Caravan Fellowship in Part 7 of Putting on the Easy Yoke.…
Jesus came to give us life, and that abundantly. So, what holds us back from living life fully? It is when we live our life making choices based not on truth, but on faulty perceptions of reality. The enemy of our soul is hard at work to deceive us about life and keep us in bondage. Satan often attacks one of our basic needs, the need be loved, and tries to deceive us into believing that God does not, or cannot love us. We may say we believe that God loves the world, but yet struggle to believe that he loves me personally. Whether this is your experience, or Satan has tried to deceive you in other ways, we hope you find this message helpful as Tory Bjorklund, president of TRC Ministries, continues his teaching at Caravan Fellowship with Part 6 of Putting on the Easy Yoke.…
Even as believers we often suffer pain from the effects of our sin, or the sin of others. And Satan uses this pain to deceive us into believing lies. Today we will look at the importance of seeing ourselves as God sees us. It is when we understand the three universal needs we have as humans, believe that God has met these needs in us, and value ourselves as God values us, that we are freed from our bondage to pain that Satan wants to keep us in, and are able to show grace to ourselves and to others.…
We often look at news headlines and the broken and corrupt world around us and say things like, “This is insane!” But how often do we wonder if WE are living a life of insanity? Sanity can be defined as “wholeness of mind, making decisions based on truth.” If this is sanity, then operating in a state of deception, basing our decisions on untruth, is insanity! It is only when we recognize we have been deceived and are living based on untruth and turn to God for help that He can restore us to sanity.…
Today is part 3 in our series, Putting on the Easy Yoke. We have covered the steps to bondage and that abiding in Christ and His truth is what sets us free. We all want abundant life, and we all seek fulfillment. But oftentimes, real fulfillment is not where we are looking. If we are seeking satisfaction in life through a focus on our physical existence—our five senses, then we are deceived, and not living in truth. It is only when we replace our focus and look for satisfaction in our spiritual existence, that we can experience the freedom that Jesus offers.…
This is our second episode in our new series, Putting on the Easy Yoke. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” This series seeks to shed light on the meaning of this profound invitation that Jesus offers us. In part one, we learned that bondage is our problem--not sin. Today we explore how it is deception that keeps us in bondage, and it is Truth that sets us free! Tory reviews the process of bondage and then takes us through the parable of the sower in Matthew 13 and the steps to living in freedom as we abide in the Word of God.…
Today we begin a new series called Putting on the Easy Yoke. What is it that Jesus is calling us to? A try harder life? Just do better and you will get there? I think we’ve all felt the weight of that mindset when we fail, and it is not the easy yoke. There is real bondage that left unchecked leads to despair, and ultimately death. But the good news is that Jesus has provided a way out of that bondage into freedom and life!…
This week concludes our Bible in a Nutshell series with the Means of Redemption Part 2. God had a plan that He carried out perfectly providing for our redemption. And the means of this redemption he made available to all mankind. How does God reveal Himself to us, and what are the implications of our response?…
