"Conagher" is one of Louis L'Amour's most popular westerns. Bantam published it in 1969 and it went through fourteen reprintings. It was made into a TV movie in 1991 starring Sam Elliott, Katherine Ross, and Barry Corbin. The main character, Conn Conagher, is the standard anti-hero. He's mean, angry, and takes no prisoners. He also has a love interest in Miss Teale. It is a complicated relationship that L'Amour gives a rather surprising ending. (No spoiler alerts as we don't give away the ending!) Philip and Russ agree that it's an exciting read but they disagree on one big plotline: The character of Conagher. Every podcast has to start with the first episode and this is ours! We chose Louis LaMour's classic western, "The Ferguson Rifle" because it is as fine a piece of writing as you will ever read. Its plot twists, tangible characters, and surprise ending (which we do not tell-no spoilers here) make it a book that is difficult to put down. We also use our "Spur" rating (1-5) for the first time. This one was easy! So join Philip Day ( www.philipdaycommunications.com ) and co-host, Russ Myers , for our first-ever podcast for LaMour fans, western readers, and anyone who just likes to read.
