About: Welcome to "It's Messy, But It's So Good," the podcast that explores the captivating journeys of individuals following their passions and expanding through life's challenges. In each episode, we uncover raw, unfiltered stories of remarkable individuals who have embraced chaos, navigated obstacles, and emerged transformed in their pursuit of purpose. Bio: Don Kilcoyne, a versatile performer, earned his first acting paycheck in 1991 as a pirate at a local Renaissance Festival. His extensive career spans off-Broadway, TV, film, regional festivals, folk band performances, and improv teaching. Immersed in the pirate theme, he created environments for the New York and Maine Renaissance Faires, sang and played percussion for The Crimson Pirates for 20 years, and published three supernatural thrillers. In addition to crafting bespoke entertainments for local businesses, coaching improv, and working as a marketing creative director. The Birth of Nasty Nick BellowsDon Kilcoyne's creative journey as Nasty Nick Bellows showcased his whimsical style, but personal struggles and a loss of direction emerged as he neared his late twenties. Sad Turns and Creative RechargeDuring his father's battle with cancer, Don found solace in his creative work as Nasty Nick Bellos, using weekends to recharge while supporting his family. Navigating Challenges and Messines Don struggled with feedback initially but credits his wife, Kelly, and former boss, Carlos Casado, for improving his listening and reflection skills. He values improvisation training for turning challenges into self-improvement opportunities and stresses openness to personal growth, recognizing triggers, and broadening perspectives. Pirates as Good Guys Don reframes pirates as often being the 'good guys' in history, fighting against oppressive navies with democratic and socialist principles. He highlights legendary female pirates like Anne Bonny and Mary Reed, known for their strategic prowess, challenging stereotypes associated with piracy. Currrent Projects and Upcoming Events Current projects, including the Maine Renaissance Fair, a fun beer review project called 'BrewVint” on YouTube with his wife, and collaborations with the Trailing Tap House in Greenwood Lake and the Maine Renaissance Fair.
