In this episode, I am speaking with Geoffrey Godfrey of Ideal Option https://www.idealoption.com/ and we are tackling a big step for all of us. Not just recognizing there is a problem but admitting it. So often we can see a problem and as long as no one else brings it up we feel like we are hiding it well. You would be surprised how many children know their parents drink and yet the parents believe that their kids have no idea.

We don’t want to wait until our loved ones are put in the position to have to be our keepers and tell us there is a problem, we know, and it really just takes admitting it. We have to face our demons and that goes well beyond the traditional drugs, alcohol, and gambling that most people put in the addiction category. We have to look at where we are escaping, and why we are living a life that requires escaping at all. There is nothing wrong with having a recreational escape until we are hiding, if we are hiding it then there is a problem and we are going to have to face that. Of course, stigma is a big part of this and we dive into that pretty deeply as well.

As my work suggests I am always looking to recover myself completely and my aim is to help others recover themselves. I see a client for a total of 4 sessions which is designed to launch self-directed lives and separate us from the constant draw of codependency. This starts with my doing a portrait of my client. The portrait is an intimate experience, these open a vocabulary to trauma and are healing. This process is not for everyone and if you are not ready I will not work with you. It is important that you are ready to step into yourself and stop playing a victim cursed by things around you.
