On today’s episode, I’m talking with Kara Walker, who graduated from college debt-free, and is now on a quest to help other students do the same with her podcast, "Money and Mental Peace," and her upcoming course "The Debt-Free College Blueprint"! She is a twenty-something Christian entrepreneur, amateur snowboarder, and recovering over-achiever. It’s easy to fear that we’re messing up our kids. If I don’t steer my kids to the right college, they won’t find the perfect spouse, and their life path will be ruined. What if they miss out on a career opportunity?
Mindset: As a parent, we have control issues. We need to put our fake magical powers back into the magician’s kit and take a breath. This is not our burden to bear.
I can pray, trust God, and ask for support from other moms going through similar situations. But this is not our wheel to steer.

- Say my child is a junior in HS. It’s easy for the kids to be stressed over resumes, joining the national honor society, community service, to the point they don’t even feel like a kid anymore. As if their junior year has been marred with have to’s and should do’s.How can we create a more peaceful mindset?
3.. How can we let go of control and partner with God on something that seems like the world will explode if we don’t do this right?
- Discuss careers and money with my student (how do you know what major to choose, and understanding what it means to get a scholarship vs pay for college. Some people take years to pay off debt.
- Getting into college - We can discuss FAFSA (actionable step), testing, how important is GPA, etc.
