✨About Eclipse ✨
There seems to be a Cambrian explosion of alternative VMs (e.g. Move VM, Gno VM, Solana VM, Fuel VM). But the execution layer is not the only layer that's being reimagined. Up until the advent of Celestia, the crypto research space has only ever thought of consensus/security, data availability, and execution as one single monolithic stack—a Layer 1 (L1). In 2023, that all changes. Now there's about to be a Cambrian explosion of Data Availability (DA) layers (e.g. Celestia, Polygon Avail) designed for modular architectures. Eclipse is a flagship project utilizing Celestia DA that implements discrete execution layers (e.g. rollups) that plugs and plays various VMs. Will this model allow the crypto economy to finally scale to onboard its next 100 million users? Will it de-emphasize the underlying base layer, abstracting them away for the end user like how early adopters have always envisioned?
