Ahav; (Love)
⁃ To love, desire, delight, like, be fond of covet, be beloved, passionate lover.
⁃ Ahav doesn’t always refer to intimacy in the form of love making or sexual intercourse. Rather it is a love used to describe a parent/child relationship as well as close ties, best friends.
Agape; (John 3:16)
⁃ Unconditional love. Meaning charity. Agape love implies that the lover doesn’t do what they deem love but sacrifices to ensure that the one is being loved has their desires fulfilled.
⁃ Benevolence. God “gave” what man needed not wanted. That’s what agape does.
⁃ Unselfish love. For a human being to understand the love of God they must remove phileo (brotherly love) and tap into agape. Only the cross can do this!
Phileo; ⁃ to live with a brotherly love. Having common interest.
