Competency-based Education: From Knowing, to Knowing How, to Showing, to Doing
Manage episode 394275179 series 3013017
In this epidose, we speak with Denise H. Rhoney - Ron and Nancy McFarlane Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy - and Zubin Austin - Professor at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto - about Competency-based Education (CBE). There is a movement afoot to transform health professions education to de-emphasize time and focus on a core set of competencies. However, defining the competencies, creating authentic assessments, and dismantling "courses" to ensure curricular alignment are major challenges to turning the promise of CBE into a reality. Is it worth it? Or is CBE just another pedagogical methodology du jour?
- Introductions and Fika Sharing from 0:00 to 2:36
- Our conversation about competency-based education starts at 2:36
