Passage

1 Corinthians 12:22-25

ESV (English Standard Version)

On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.

NLT (New Living Translation)

In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other.

NIV (New International Version)

On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.

Ask Yourself

How am I contributing to a culture of inclusivity and belonging within my community or church? Do I recognize and honour the unique gifts of every individual, especially those who might be differently wired?

Walk it Out

Reflect

  • Meditate on 1st Corinthians 12:22-25 and journal about its application to your community and personal interactions.

Engage

  • Identify someone who might feel marginalized or overlooked and reach out to them with intentionality to learn about their unique gifts and contributions.

Pray

  • Pray for God to open your eyes to see the unique value and gifts in every individual, especially those who are differently wired.
  • Pray for your church community to grow in inclusivity, fostering environments of felt safety and belonging for everyone.
  • Pray that God will transform your heart to be more loving, courageous, and proactive in creating spaces where all can thrive and participate fully.
