Continuing HPP’s in-depth preview of the Mountain West Conference, Rich Harris sits down with two Player of the Year candidates — Boise State forward O’Mar Stanley and Utah State guard Ian Martinez.
An All-Mountain West selection last season, Stanley averaged 12.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 54 percent from the floor. In terms of metrics, he ranked in the top 10 of the conference for BLK% (5.1), REB% (15.0), offensive rating (122.2), defensive rating (98.9), PER (24.4), and plus-minus (6.9).
A former 4-star recruit, Martinez played at Utah and Maryland before coming to Utah State last season. With the Aggies, Ian had a career year, averaging 13.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assist per game, with outstanding shooting splits (.474/.381/.856). In terms of points per possession, the Costa Rican native ranked at the 87th percentile overall and 94th in transition.
