The Government is claiming a win after unemployment held steady in September, with tens of thousands of new jobs created.

The Treasurer has rebuked Opposition criticism that the majority of the jobs were created in government funded sectors, telling Radio National Breakfast "care economy jobs are real jobs.. and there is a real snobiness at the core of the critique."

It comes as Israel says the Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has been killed by the IDF in Gaza, which the Treasurer says he hopes "helps" and "hastens" an end to the war.
