The Disappearance of Jake Just

Hello, I’m Jay Nicoll from Nicoll Investigations and I’m here to tell you about the next episode of Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast, coming this Sunday, November 17.

October 30 marked 26 years since the mysterious disappearance of Jake Just, a young man from Midland who vanished after taking a late-night shortcut through the Sunnyside Woods.

Jake, who would be 44 years old today, remains a painful absence for his loved ones. Despite the passage of time, the ache of his loss has not diminished.

The investigation initially focused on the last place Jake was seen — the frequently traveled shortcut through the wooded area in Midland. On that night, Jake had been out with friends, drinking and joking around, even smashing bottles over each other's heads in playful antics. When it came time to head home, he and a friend started walking together, but Jake chose to take the dimly lit trail through the woods alone.

He was never seen again.

Hampered by a possible head injury and under the influence of alcohol, did he lose his way and stumble into a boggy swamp, where he was swallowed up by so-called quicksand or did something more nefarious happen?

Join us in the latest episode of Ontario Cold Cases – Canada’s True Crime Podcast, coming this Sunday, November 17th, as we try to unravel and answer these questions to murders that have never been solved, and don’t forget to subscribe with new episodes daily wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts.
