David Lynch was born 20 Jan 1946 in Missoula, Montana and died 15 Jan 2025 in LA from complications to his emphysema condition that was severely impacted by the Southern California wildfires. He was an American filmmaker, visual artist, musician, and actor whose contribution to art generally and cinema specifically will be referenced by future Oscar winning filmmakers yet to be born, such were the unique and original visions that he was able to bring to the medium. There simply aren't words to do justice to his (Lynch's) art. Which is fitting cos his films were always about the look and feel, the shocking and disturbing, the surreal and the dream moreso than the dialogue. I moved from a fan to an obsessed fan when I first viewed Lost Highway in 97. Shortly after I borrowed this DVD Pretty As A Picture a doco that looked behind the creator. I was enthralled at the lengths Lynch would go to in order to have the sounds and visuals of his films produced true to his vision. I once read someone say that watching one of Lynch's films was like falling off a bike early in a race and then having to complete that race with a rickety wheel. He was a master at knocking you off balance early and never allowing you to recover. I'll close this tribute here. Thank you David for your incredible art and gift to this existence. You are now with your great buddy Angelo Badalamenti the music composer to your dark art.…

Washington DC indie rockers Flowerbomb have been brewing and evolving over a few years and in 2024 released the Gloom Scroll Vol I & II EPs. Their track 'Cool' caught my ears mid-year and made it into my end of year 3 hour Retrospective. Rachel (vocals and guitar) and Abby (bass) joined me in December for a chat about their band and the DC indie music scene. Tracks featured are 'Cool' and 'Weird Place'. Some songs contain explicit language.…
