We did it! We reached the end of God Emperor of Dune! In this episode, we cover the rise of Duncan and the fall of Leto II. As expected, not everyone makes it out of this book alive. We have a lot to cover with just three chapters so we hope you’re ready for the season (series?) finale of Sand! Dune talk starts at the 14 minute mark.…
Okay, Sandies! We're almost to the end of God Emperor of Dune! Can you believe it? In this episode, we feel the lady Siona doth protest too much her pairing with the hunk Duncan Idaho; come face to face at last with the much talked about Malky; and watch as Hwi and Leto II attempt to find 'soul love,' whatever the f that is. Join us for the penultimate stretch of our journey towards marriage, rebellion, and ... the death of God?!! Dune talk begins at the 20-minute mark…
Gross! If you've read this book with us, you know how gross Leto can get, but this is beyond the pale... Leto, you dirty bird! Join us for another episode where we finally get to talk about this test we've been hearing all about! We will obviously also talk about movies all while a storm rages outside. Dune talk starts at 13 and a half minutes in. Enjoy Sand!…
Molly and Lance coming at you straight from Arrakis with a particularly spicy episode of SAND, in which we cover chapters 30-35 of God Emperor of Dune. It seems everyone has forgotten to take their spice this morning as we get one pissed off character after another coming to see Leto II in his chambers, prompting him to take one well-deserved romp in the sand. But while Leto's away, the hot people will play ...…
We're back again with our bellies full of worm stew! There's a LOT of our almighty worm just flappin' his wormy gums in this chunk of chapters. Lucky for you, Molly forgot to read a sixth chapter so we'll just be covering the five this time. Dune talk starts around the 17 minute mark. Enjoy!
It's Audience Day on Arrakis! Lance, Molly, and Leto II receive enlightening visits from Moneo, Duncan, Anteac, and the beguiling Hwi Noree, who's purity and innocence has the whole Citadel in a tizzy. We learn many things, such as how the Fish learn to Speak, but what still remains a mystery is just how Leto II lies down. Does he curl up on his cart? Does he use a neck pillow? Can it still be called a neck pillow when the user is 100% neck? All that and more on this episode of SAND: A PODCAST ABOUT DUNE. Dune talk begins ~18 minutes in.…
Molly and Lance have joined the parade! They're headed to Festival City! They are curious how much of this book with be walking to a fair! Chapters thirteen through eighteen of God Emperor of Dune are covered. Dune talk starts at around 11 minutes!
Sorry for the delay, friends! Ran into some technical difficulties :(. Lance and Molly take on chapters 7-12 of God Emperor of Dune in this episode of Sand! They learn many things such as: a grandfather can be his own grandfather; the Tleilaxu simp for the Bene Gesserit; and the only thing more terrifying than a 4,000-year-old god worm man is a female in the army. It's a riot! We're having a blast with this one, hope you are too. See you in the dunes!! Dune talk begins at 17:00 Movies talked about: Spencer Power of the Dog (Netflix) The Last Duel (HBO) House of Gucci The Tinder Swindler (Netflix) The Puppet Master (Netflix)…
We cracked open a new (crappy, old paperback version of this) book! God Emperor of Dune! Welcome to the new season, which will be presented every other week! Here, we cover the first six chapters of GEoD which starts off running! We, however, start off by talking about movies we've seen. Book talk starts a little after the eleven minute mark. If you like this podcast, please tell you friends, subscribe, and leave us a nice rating and review.…
What’s up, Sandies?? We are BACK at last to discuss God Emperor of Dune. Sorry for the delay but just like Leto II, we had to wait 4,000 years between books. Lance and Molly are very excited to get into Frank Herbert’s fourth book, famed for its philosophical depth and ability to “really go there.” We’ve already got a little boy with superpowers and worms for skin, now let’s see what else the man has in store for us. Our first episode will come out on Friday, March 4th, where we will discuss the first 6 chapters of the book. There are a few extra inserts that we don’t count towards the number of chapters (no quote at the beginning = no chapter), so just to clear things up, we’re reading through the chapter that starts with the quote, “Enemies strengthen you. Allies weaken you,” (metal). See y’all there!!!!…
**An earlier version of this episode was posted with only one piece of audio. Oops! If you heard that, sorry! It's fixed now.** The moment is finally here — Denis Villeneuve's operatic take on the Duniverse has arrived and we have reunited, along with our friend Carlos LaRotta, to talk all about it. The casting, favorite scenes, the set design, the costumes, we get into it all. Now it may sound like we had nothing but problems with this movie but I promise you that's just our personalities. We love to pick this shit apart — it's why we got into this biz! We pick because we love. Fun fact about Carlos: He designed our artwork. Yes, he is the brains behind the sandworm in headphones! Plus! We announce that we're coming back ~at some point in the near distant future~ to tackle book four in the Dune series, God Emperor of Dune. Keep an eye out for a trailer on that soon! In the meantime, feel free to email us with your many Dune movie thoughts at sandthepodcast@gmail.com. Thanks y'all. Bless the maker and his water.…
We're back and joined by Naomi Perryman who has not read the book Children of Dune, but did take a hit by watching the miniseries. We'll figure out if made any sense at all. Dune talk starts right away on this one!
Wherein we discuss episodes 1 & 2 of the Syfy Channel rendition of Children of Dune -- or rather, Lance tells Molly about the first episode because she skipped the first episode, not realizing the series did, in fact, include Dune Messiah. We have fun! This adaptation is much better than the Dune miniseries!!…
Suck on this, Nay-sayers! We did it! We finished Children of Dune! Here are the last four chapters and in true Dune fashion, it gets a little out there! Who will live? Who will die? Who will use their super strength to spin their aunt around in circles above their head? These chapters answer those questions and ask more. Dune talk begins at the 15 minute mark. We will take a week off next week, but then we'll be back for at least two more episodes to discuss the Children of Dune miniseries. As always, shoot us an email at sandthepodcast@gmail.com. We finish the book next week! And with that, the original trilogy!…
In this, the penultimate episode of our Children of Dune recap, we find a frustrated Ghanima who still will not be respected by Stilgar, a sad and lonely Gurney just looking for his old friend Paul, and a mysterious new double agent in Alia's latest conquest, Buer Agarves. We're close to the end and just as uncertain as ever about anyone's motivations or end goals. What we do know is that Leto is not fucking around and has already freaked many Fremen into subservience with his wall-punching, dune-hopping Shai-Halud powers. Side note, do you think Frank Herbert ever considered a reality in which Leto II was not a desert demon, but a dessert demon? Mmm, spice cookies. Dune talk begins at the 25 minute mark. As always, shoot us an email at sandthepodcast@gmail.com. We finish the book next week! And with that, the original trilogy!…
