In 2019, Adrian Daniels had a brainwave to launch a podcast platform to showcase Ghanaian excellence to the world. The internet is already crowded with content from Ghana: YouTube, Social Media pages, etc. However, after hosting 2x Networking Events during Christmas 2018 & 2019 in Accra for the Global African Diaspora, Adrian noticed a lack and desire for networking, whilst meeting many creatives and entrepreneurs from around the globe. In January 2020, The Sound of Accra Podcast was born. Powerful interviews with Top Founders, Entrepreneurs and Creatives from Ghanaian heritage or interest, leaving listeners with meaningful takeaways for life, business and career. New episodes weekly. Many founders dream of overnight success stories, but Giuseppe’s journey is more familiar to most entrepreneurs: His first startup, Ooze Drinks, failed. Inspired by the shocking reality of food waste, Giuseppe eventually gave the UK food industry a second go, and created a health snacks line using “wonky” produce, along with co-founder Claudio Owusu. A financial grant from Shell Energy of £5,000 and early success in the Supermarkets spelled the beginning of eventual success for Gusto Snacks. The relationships, missteps, and learnings from the first startup created the groundwork for his next venture. Enjoy the snippet. Click here to watch the full episode or visit our website to listen. Book a consultation -> https://thesoundofaccra.com/consultations Sign up to our newsletter for the latest podcast updates and subscriber-only bonuses and opportunities -> https://thesoundofaccra.com/newsletter In this episode snippet, Cheryl Conquers expresses that Ghana has huge potential as a travel destination and describes it as the “new jewel of Africa,” especially with the recent rise of festivals and cultural events that appeal to a wide range of visitors. She says there’s something for everyone in Ghana and is planning to do a content trip there soon to highlight the country’s beauty from a more international perspective. However, Cheryl also observes that Ghana’s tourism board and social media presence are very localised, often focusing on content that resonates mostly with local audiences (like posts in local dialects or highlighting traditional foods and dances), rather than creating content that would attract international tourists. She compares this with destinations like Turkey, where tourism boards tailor their marketing and social channels to a global audience, making it easier for international travelers to envision and plan trips there. Cheryl suggests that Ghana could benefit from a more internationally-focused marketing strategy to fully realise its potential as a leading travel destination. She explains that tourism boards can often act as “gatekeepers” to opportunities like press trips and collaborating on travel campaigns. Working with these organisations can provide access to resources such as accommodations, flights, and in-depth local experiences that creators might not be able to organise independently. Cheryl also outlines several key steps for anyone looking to become a successful, full-time content creator: Define Your Why : Having a clear, personal reason for creating content (e.g., financial freedom, passion projects, giving back) is essential to stay motivated, especially during challenging times Pick Your Niche Thoughtfully : While some niche down too much and limit their opportunities, others go too broad and dilute their message. Cheryl recommends striking a balance, choosing a niche you’re genuinely passionate about and can sustain as a lifestyle. Ensure Your Niche Fits Your Lifestyle : Content creation is an ongoing process and part of your daily life, so pick a niche (like travel, wellness, or food) that feels natural and enjoyable for you. Diversify Your Income Streams: Don’t rely on just one way to make money. Cheryl highlights methods such as brand partnerships, sponsorships, affiliate links, social media management, and press trips F ocus on Engagement, Not Just Follower Count: Cheryl stresses that engagement rate is more valuable than a large following, as brands increasingly work with creators who have an active, loyal audience. Yet, despite this promising start, Nana felt a strong pull to return to his home country and leverage his skills in a way that would benefit the people of Ghana. Driven by this underlying purpose, Nana made the bold decision to forgo the Wall Street path and returned to Ghana. Despite these achievements, Nana's heart yearned for a different challenge—agriculture. In the heart of Ghana lies a school (Greatway Memorial Complex School) that once shone brightly as a beacon of hope for children seeking a better future. Founded by a mother, this school was more than just a place of learning—it was a sanctuary, a refuge where dreams took flight and possibilities seemed endless. But time, relentless and unforgiving, has taken its toll. The previous owner's health has deteriorated and the school she poured her heart and soul into has fallen into disrepair. It breaks hearts to witness the decline of a place that meant so much to a mother and to the countless children whose lives she touched. But amidst the decay, there remains a glimmer of hope—a belief that we can breathe new life into this cherished institution. Your contribution will aid in refurbishing the school in Accra , including replacing the roof and floor, acquiring new furniture, and granting underprivileged children the invaluable opportunity to access an education that has the power to shape their futures. Moreover, your support will enable the restocking of essential supplies and establish a secure, nurturing environment where children can thrive and grow. Every dollar you donate will directly impact the lives of these children, furnishing them with the necessary tools, resources, and opportunities essential for their success. Together, let's restore hope. Let's rebuild this school in Accra and ensure that it continues to serve as a beacon of light in the lives of these children.
