Self-trust expands when you stop trying to be perfect and start trusting yourself to adjust. In this episode, I explore why the pressure to "get it right" often stems from fear and how releasing that pressure can help you build deeper self-trust. Humans are wired for survival, which makes us naturally fearful; but most modern leadership challenges are not about life-or-death situations. When we’re driven by fear, we become tense and closed off, making it harder to access intuition and wisdom. Self trust grows not from always being right but from being willing to learn, adjust, and focus on the greater good. Letting go of the need to be right allows wisdom to flow, decisions to become clearer, and leadership to feel more natural and grounded. People respect leaders who own their mistakes, not those who pretend to have all the answers. And trust grows when you embrace learning and course correction instead of perfection. How do you respond when someone emails you to ask for a meeting or a call at a time that’s not going to work for you? How much do you share and what boundaries do you set? When I became a mother I discovered something in my quest of how much to share about what I was really up to in an afternoon or in a day, and why I may or may not be available for a call. Whether you have kids or not, I think you'll find this episode really helpful to start thinking about how you can make an empowering choice between giving a boundary-focused and structured, ‘masculine’ response or a more connecting and open ‘feminine’ response – not just in emails, but in all forms of communication. As we draw closer to the end of the year, are you already starting to plan for next year? We often just look ahead, when we really want to feel like we're building on something, not starting afresh every time. This episode is really helpful as you start reflecting back on a year or on a period of your life. I share a major shift for me from 2022 around finding the lesson in our experiences, and using that to move us forward, and explore the value of celebrating your achievements, and the need to trust the long-term process. It’s my invitation to you to trust yourself and the lessons you’re given, and to keep the faith along the way. Not all time is equal. How much energy something takes matters. There is power in choosing how much time you want to give to a thing. "How long will I choose for that thing to take?" is such a different approach to "How long will this take me?" In this episode I introduce my 21-day audio course, Productivity w/Joy, and share one of the daily trainings. Productivity w/Joy blends the masculine and the feminine for more productivity – and more joy. Because if you’re like me, you may have found that systems leave you frustrated when you can’t stick to them, or they don’t fit your life or suit your personality. You are already masterful at juggling many priorities, doing incredible amounts of things and making stuff happen. What I want to share with you is a joyful journey in enabling you to experience more joy and more impact – while you are doing All The Things. As you judge your parents so your personal power suffers. The more you want to skip this episode – the more you probably need to listen to it. And let’s be clear! You don’t need to ever speak to your parents again, if that is what you’re worried about. You might want to – but you don’t have to, to get the benefit of what I am talking about here. It’s not as intense you might be thinking. This episode is about how what happened in your parental dynamics, in your childhood, and in your heritage significantly influences everything and anything that is possible for you as a leader and as a business owner. There are 5 reasons for why judging your parents is negatively influencing your ability to lead and be led: 1. You cut yourself off from human life force. If you walk around thinking you would rather not have had the patterns or the parents you got, it’s like cutting off your roots. And just like trees stand weak, when they don’t have roots, so do humans. You might have very good reasons for not want to be like them or to have anything to do with them (I have coached leaders who have been abused in all kinds horrific ways as children). The important thing is to acknowledge that this is where you come from for better and for worse. You are one in the line of many – that’s how you get access to human life force, even if your childhood was a mess and your parents weren’t anywhere close to being “good parents”. 2. You are turned towards the past . When you’re judging your parents, it’s like you’re standing with your back to the future, because you’re looking towards what’s happened in the past and that makes you less powerful in the present. 3. You are out whack in the order of life . If you’re facing towards the past, you’re looking towards the generation that came before you, rather than towards the next generation. That messes with the way natured intended life to be and it minimises your chance to be supported in life and the power you have available for creation of the future. 4. You become too big for your shoes, which can make you weirdly inflated. When you’re judging your parents, you’re in a way saying: I know better than you, I am better than you, I would never have done what you did. And this might be the case. But you didn’t have their exact childhood and you don’t fully know what it was like to be them. When the above sentences feel true, it’s like it’s like we are trying to scold our parents and in that sense we become our parents parents or our parents judges and that’s not who we’re meant to be. We are born to be our parents’ children and only when we can be the children are we free to look towards the future and tend to creations that are true to us. (Rather than leaking energy to proving our parents wrong or showing what failures they were.) 5. You have to keep proving that you’re good enough. If you’re judging your parents there will be a deep niggling self doubt. Because if they aren’t good enough – that means you’re made of faulty raw material and maybe that means that you’re no good too. The mean voice inside will pop up from time to time wondering what if I am like them or at least partly like them. It’s exhausting to try and prove that you’re different from your parents. So what can you do instead of staying in harsh judgement? What helps is to see a bit more of the generational picture. With whatever snippets of information you have about the generation before you plus thinking about what happened in the world at that time of your parents childhood, it might highlight to you that your father or mother didn’t have an easy time, and neither did their parents. Although it doesn’t excuse bad behaviour, it helps us acknowledge that there is a chain of suffering that has been passed on and that there is not one person to blame. Each generation before passed on mess to the next. And it is, what it is. And it happened. You can also work on forgiveness. But not in the sense of saying what happened was OK. My favourite definition of forgiveness is giving up the hope that it could have been any different. We don’t fully know what it was like being our parents and we are not excusing their behaviour, but we are giving up the need to judge. Because when we judge our parents we are also saying (unconsciously) this isn’t what my life should have been. And when we’re busy focusing on what shouldn’t have been and what isn’t right, we don’t have power to focus on what we can do something about and what strength we have gained from everything we have been through. If you have been judging your parents harshly and are wondering what the best next step is, start by imagine them in front of you – visualise them and say out loud: “You are the right mother/father for me”. Notice if this is something you can say easily? Or perhaps it feels too difficult to say? Maybe it releases something or maybe it opens a can of worms? Whatever emotions come up for you reading/listening to this, you don’t have to sit alone with it. I highly recommend getting in touch with a Family Constellator and if you feel called, get in touch with me. Reframing how we see ourselves in relation to work/home life - and how to answer the question ‘what do you do?’ How useful ‘Cultural fit’ is, and what organisations really need to be looking for when hiring, and the importance of community at work, mentorship, and people having your back. The importance of leaving the door open for those coming up behind you, doing good for its own sake and helping others with no strings attached. We are very aware these days that men get paid more, get more funding, and as a generalisation ask for so much more… assuming they will get it. Growing up, us women don't get taught to ask for that much. Instead we are encouraged to be helpful. We’re taught to be ‘good girls’. To be grateful for what we’ve got. To be careful what we ask for. To be cautious and humble. And when we do ask for something, we tend to ask for just a little bit more… to have something just a little bit better. But this doesn’t help us change the system. We women are extraordinary. It’s time you ask for more. To ask for what you really want. To ask for what feels outrageously ‘unreasonable’! In this episode, I talk about how you can figure out what you REALLY want, how to ask for it (and to have the confidence to negotiate) - and why women having more will make things better for everyone. Are you asking for too little? Setting limitations on your dreams? Putting yourself and your needs last? It's not always easy to know what we want or what’s possible, and sometimes we limit ourselves with self-imposed restrictions. In this solo episode of Female Inner Power, I dive into three mindset shifts that will empower you to have success on your own terms. I share my insights on tuning into your desires, negotiating and dreaming big to create a life that makes your heart dance, and the importance of prioritising your own mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. We’ll also explore the possibility of choosing to believe that the different things that you want and need can coexist. It’s time to expand your vision of what you believe is possible, and achieve true success on your terms from your Female Inner Power. Because magic happens when you are tuned in to the very best of you. "Again and again, we hear how as women we ask for too little. It's so fascinating to me how reluctant we are to dream big and ask for big things. Tuning into what we want is actually not that easy, but it's something I would recommend you do a lot. If we're not willing to dare to look beyond this limiting scale we're creating for ourselves, how big do we allow ourselves to live? If you could have what you wanted, what would you want? You know playing with this question of ‘What do I really, really, really want’ is incredibly powerful. If you want success on your terms, you’ve got to tune in regularly, and course correct." Do we need to stop ‘being so emotional’ at work? Can we be strong and credible female leaders if we show a lot of emotion? I’ve coached countless women who’ve been told (by a man) to be less emotional. And we see this so much in the media and in so many political debates. But what does it even mean to be ‘too emotional’? In this episode I unpack the four levels of feelings, and explore why it’s time to change the tide that showing emotion is bad for business – and why allowing ourselves to feel our feelings strongly actually improves our leadership. Jane Sassienie is a Director of Bridge Partnership, a global consultancy that helps evolve leaders and organisations to be a force for good in the world. Bridge’s recently published research paper, ‘How did she get there’, looks at what organisations can learn from women in senior roles who are succeeding – without changing themselves to fit the prevailing paradigm. Jane has an unusual combination of training in fine art, psychology and psychotherapy, an interest in human systems, organisational constellations and systems theory that give her unique insights into what is going on in a business culture and how to shift it. In addition to her role at Bridge, she is a founding member of the Bridge Institute, bringing together governments, NGOs and business leaders to try and solve some of the world's biggest crises. In this conversation Jane shares her thoughts and knowledge about: How the female narrative has been shaped – and distorted – by history What true leadership should look like Why some women are choosing not to lead How women lead naturally – and how we can become leaders without changing ourselves or becoming ‘honorary men’ What needs to change to facilitate more women becoming leaders … and she shares the five main findings of Bridge’s How Did She Get There research which reveals qualities shared by successful women leading on their own terms. Who gets to decide if you’re important? This week I explore why knowing your own importance matters – and what happens when you don’t know how important you really are. This episode is for you if you’ve ever wondered whether you’re ‘good enough’, been told you’re too much, been the ‘good girl’ who has looked to others for validation, outsourced your self worth, or ignored your own body, mind and needs. Uplevelling your self importance has absolutely nothing to do with arrogance, comparison, superiority, or your ego. It’s not about taking yourself too seriously. This is about… How you show up How your body feels How you think and feel What you pay attention to How you honour others It’s time for you to dial up your level of self importance, trust yourself more, and discover more impact and joy. This one matters. EPISODE LINKS To find out more about Noomi Melchior Natan, her coaching, Female Inner Power offers and more go to www.noominatan.com/everything Love the podcast? Hazel Beasley is a Board Member, Engineer and Consultant who works in an organisation that doesn't believe in traditional hierarchy and titles. While having young children Hazel worked as a teacher but when she was ready to transition back into engineering she found it more tricky than she had imagined. Lots of people had unhelpful opinions and she also found herself experiencing unconscious bias in several ways. After a number of jobs, Hazel is now thrilled to be working at the consulting firm Hatmil, a company that embraces Teal leadership and encourages employees to bring their whole selves to work. The Teal approach means there is traditional hierarchy and Hazel shares more about how this really works. Hazel is also the first elected female employee director on the Hatmill Operations Board. In this conversation Hazel shares: Her valuable insights on dealing with sexism and unconscious bias in a male-dominated industry Relying on the power of silence and speaking up selectively in meetings The importance of appreciating and giving specific feedback to others The unique board structure at Hatmill, and how being an elected board member has given her a broad view of the company and allowed her to be more involved in business-wide conversations. Hazel also discusses Teal Leadership, an evolutionary concept that she believes is the future of organisational structures. Hazel's story serves as an inspiration for those looking to make a career change and perhaps taking an unconventional path, and shows how powerful connecting with others and building genuine relationships can be. If you're feeling stuck in your career, Hazel’s story is a timely reminder that it's never too late to tread your own path, make a change and pursue your passions. I’m so excited to welcome you to Season 2 of the Female Inner Power podcast. In this season, we’ll be delving further into the topic of female empowerment in male-dominated spaces, and in particular the experiences of women on boards. Board positions can bring prestige and influence, and unlock so many possibilities for women, providing not only influence and status but also flexibility. But we are underrepresented on boards, and this is something I felt was important to explore. One key piece in securing a board position is investing in your personal development. But this often seems to fall by the wayside for women. And the reason I hear most frequently about why a woman doesn’t invest in her personal development is not money… It's time. So what do you do when you ‘don’t have time’ for personal development? In this solo episode I give you five different tips for how you can make space for your personal growth and invest in yourself, even when there is just very little time. I talk mindset, micro habits, using your ears, going deep quickly – and just how much you can fit into 10 minutes or even less. Because it’s not about how much information you have time to soak up – it’s about how you let yourself be impacted and transformed by it. Find out how teeny, tiny pockets of time can absolutely transform everything that’s possible for you in terms of how much impact you can have, and how much you can love yourself and your life. The interview was so valuable and aligned that Noomi asked to be able to share it also here on the Female Inner Power podcast. Find out more about Noomi’s Imposter Syndrome course here: https://noominatan.com/imposter/ And here are the show notes from the Impostor Syndrome Files: In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about power. Many of us reject the idea of power, because we don’t like the concept of power over others. My guest this week, Noomi Natan, reframes power not as the power to control, but as power from within. And most importantly, she shares that power is not about us. Connecting with our inner power is not about self-service, but about being of greatest service to the world around us. She also invites us to ask ourselves, “What am I a channel for?” to ensure that we’re maximising our value. About Kim Meninger - host the Imposter Syndrome Files Kim Meninger is a leadership coach and TEDx speaker focused on empowering professionals and organisations to reach new heights by making it easier to be human at work.
