SuiteConnect London 2023 was the cloud vendor’s first in-person UK conference since 2019, and the NetSuite team announced a series of product developments to bolster its efforts to win the hearts and minds of UK mid-market businesses, including planning and budgeting tools, a billing engine and enhanced analytics capabilities. With the launch of Netledger in 1998, Goldberg is credited by many as being the first to take desktop accounting software and put it on the cloud. In the podcast he reflects on cloud accounting’s journey to acceptance, and whether his idea has evolved in the way he expected. The discussion also touches on why mid to larger-size businesses are increasingly focussed on investing in cloud accounting tools, whether the UK government’s dream of establishing a ‘Silicon Valley’ this side of the pond is a realistic one, and what can be done to tackle the UK’s failure to help small businesses scale up. Goldberg also reflects on the new wave of generative AI tools sweeping through the accounting industry, and what they could mean for the profession and the wider business community. Background reading for the podcast: NetSuite tools up for mid-market cloud battle Podcast written and hosted by Tom Herbert and produced by Will Cole.
