Vanity is the reason many think is the reason to work toward influencer status.

Julian Casablancas, leader singer for The Strokes said, “Vanity can easily overtake wisdom. It usually overtakes common sense.

So the reason behind the desire to become an influencer CAN'T be vanity.

It must be for POSITIONING.

You have to do the things that make it easy for others to recognize you as influencer, and then you will be able to leverage that positioning to further your career or business.
