Feelings are a treasure trove of human essence. They tell us so much about our inner landscape and how we’re responding to what’s going on around us.

Sadly, we’ve been trained not to feel our feelings so we shove them away, hoping they don’t surface again.

How many times have we heard people say “you’re too sensitive” and “suck it up” when someone is visibly distressed or “I’m fine” when they clearly aren’t?

We’ve been taught that our feelings are these dangerous, unpredictable things that must be caged at all costs. This actually does a lot of harm to our ability to be with ourselves and our loved ones.

Feelings are the operating system that runs our entire existences, and the more we flee, the more we lose touch with what makes human beings special. How do we welcome our feelings with open arms? In this episode, we talk about the value of our emotions (especially when we embrace them).

Human beings don’t have a very good vocabulary for our inner landscape. -Katie Hendricks

-Feeling your feelings vs. fleeing from them

How do we move through what we’re feeling instead of trying to step out of it?

-The efficiency of emotion

In a matter of seconds, we can feel our feelings, drop into them and resurface safely. Does smothering what we feel actually prolong this process and delay our healing?

-Body, tell me

Our bodies signal to us when we’re hungry or thirsty. Do they do the same when we feel sad and angry?
