In his 1913 publication, The National Question, Joseph Stalin elaborated the first Marxist conceptualization devoted to nationality. Stalin’s work embraced Russia’s plurality of nations and ethnicities, later materialized in the Soviet Union’s policies that could be termed today as multicultural. In 2017, the year of the one-hundredth anniversary of the Soviet Union, the national question is perhaps one of the most prominent issues in current national and international politics: refugees, Trump, Brexit, and NATO being a few examples.
