She is a four-time Grand Slam singles champion, and is the reigning champion at the US Open and the Australian Open. Notable, At the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open, Osaka won her first two Grand Slam singles titles in back-to-back Grand Slam tournaments, and is the first player to achieve this feat since Jennifer Capriati in 2001. She also became the first woman to win successive Grand Slam singles titles since Serena Williams in 2015.
This is why we celebrate Sista Naomi Osaka as the Black Renaissance Woman of the week.
KEEPING IT REAL!
Naomi subsequently withdrew from the French Open as she stated, "I stand by that. Athletes are humans. Tennis is our privileged profession, and of course there are commitments off the court that coincide. But I can’t imagine another profession where a consistent attendance record (I have missed one press conference in my seven years on tour) would be so harshly scrutinized.
Do we expect athletes to be on point ALL OF THE TIME?
