Welcome to another episode of Breakfast of Choices. I'm your host Jo Summers and today I have the pleasure of speaking with entrepreneur and community leader, Amy Singleton. Amy shared her inspiring story of transformation from rock bottom to rock solid. Amy grew up in Oklahoma City and struggled with self-doubt, and trying to fit in with societal expectations, which led to interest in medicine and communication. After a difficult divorce where she learned her husband was gay, Amy's health issues escalated severely.
Amy experienced chronic pain, and depression, and was prescribed multiple medications that led to negative side effects. Amy eventually turned to alcohol which deepened her depression and isolation. A friend intervened and encouraged her to seek help, starting her long journey to recovery. Amy later met her husband Joseph who also struggled with addiction and together they decided to get sober and improve communication through this process.
In recovery, Amy and Joseph started a business to give back, leveraging their skills in entrepreneurship, SEO, and marketing. Their agency helps Businesses grow through digital strategies and website design. Amy attributes her improved health to shifting her mindset, therapy, and personal development. She also serves on the board of directors for The Virtue Center, a treatment center in Norman, OK, to advocate and share her story of hope.
Amy emphasizes the importance of vulnerability in recovery. Leaders need space to admit struggles with mental health, and addiction and ask for help. Connection and showing grace to others are so important in overcoming life's challenges.
