12:05This episode is about the framework of Ayurveda and how it relates to the Vijnanamaya Kosha, which is the wisdom body or the unconscious mind. One way to balance this kosha is with different meditation techniques. We use these meditation techniques differently based on imbalanced doshas from the Ayurvedic system. Imbalances in the doshas, will cause imbalances in the vijnanamaya kosha in different ways and in today's episode that is what we will be diving into. You will learn different practices and meditation techniques to balance the vijnanamaya and how to tell whether someone has a vata, pitta or kapha imbalance in this kosha. 18:12In this episode, learn about the 4th kosha, the vijnanamaya in the 5 kosha system. This layer of ourselves is usually referred to as our body of wisdom. This is the layer of our consciousness that sits underneath what we think of as our conscious mind. Often this kosha is associated with our intuition because the wisdom that we receive comes from a deeper place within ourselves which is in connection to the universe. When we do practices to balance this kosha, we are doing practices to remove barriers that shield us from the truth of who we are. The primary practice for this is meditation. In this episode, you will learn about the vijnanamaya kosha, what happens when it is out of balance and how we can use meditation practices as yoga therapists to help our clients bring their vijnanamaya kosha into harmony. 15:49In today’s episode, Joe Simek, Breathing Deeply assistant teacher, sits down with Breathing Deeply founder Brandt Passalacqua to talk about yoga therapy and mental health. With mental health, it is not a one size fits all approach. At Breathing Deeply, we teach our students how to create individualized practices that empower their clients to take their health into their own hands! Listen in as Brandt shares with us how yoga therapy’s approach to mental health is different yet complementary to mainstream western medicine. Find out what the process is for assessing someone’s mental health as a yoga therapist and developing specific yoga practices that work the best for an individual to help them reach their mental health goals. Each person lands at their mental state depending on their own personal journey and their specific imbalances, meaning with yoga therapy two people who are both suffering from anxiety may be given completely different practices. Brandt discusses the multiple assessment models taught at Breathing Deeply which are used to come up with an individualized practice that unfolds in relationship with each client. He then walks us through his process for assessing & curating a practice for a client with anxiety. Breathing Deeply’s goal is to bring balance back to the entire system of all of our clients to lessen their suffering. Discover what sets Breathing Deeply from other yoga therapy schools! 23:06The Manomaya kosha is the layer of our being that represents the intellect and the conscious mind. This is the level of our conscious thoughts. The Manomaya kosha is one of the most important koshas, because of the huge effect it has on us. Because the mind is so powerful, it can affect all the other 4 koshas dramatically. We can think of the Manomaya kosha as the pivotal centerpiece in the 5 kosha model. This is why, as yoga therapists, it is important to ensure the Manomaya kosha is healthy and balanced through specific practices. In this episode, Brandt shares the role the Manomaya Kosha plays in our mental and physical health and the two ways we work with the Manomaya Kosha as yoga therapists.
