THIS WEEK on QueerFM Van we shine the spotlight on our Indig-queer community for National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day!
We at QueerFM Van gratefully acknowledge that we live and operate on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, x?m??k??y??m (Musqueam), S?wx?wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:l? and S?l?ílw?ta?/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Yvonne Chartrand (she/her) is a contemporary dance artist as well as a national award-winning master Métis jigger. She is a 7th generation Michif from her ancestral community of St. Laurent, Manitoba.
In 2000, Yvonne co-founded V’ni Dansi (“Come and Dance” in Michif) where she continues to act as sole Artistic Director. Yvonne’s Métis dance work was passed onto her through many Métis Elders, and she is dedicated to preserving traditional Métis dance in Canada.
Yvonne is a winner of the 2011 Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award from the Canada Council for the Arts. Her latest project La Mitchin di Mitchif, is an Indigenous dance production produced in partnership with The Talking Stick Festival and Dance Centre and is currently running at the Scotiabank Dance Centre (677 Davie St, Vancouver).

DJ O SHOW
DJ O Show (she/her) is Vancouver's Afro-Indigenous/2 Spirit/DJ/Performer/Motivational Speaker/Workshop Facilitator - and kick ass human - and she’s making the first step into her Hip-Hop career with her debut track "Status & Clarity" - a hard hitting song that will open up the dialogue of decolonization through art. A proud member of the S?wx?wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, her world is seen through lenses of intersectional light, and a two-spirited vision that is beaming through one body.
Directed by Patrick Shannon from The Haida Nation, the music video for "Status & Clarity" showcases the importance of having someone who understood her vision and where she was coming from. This song tells the truth about growing up in her S?wx?wú7mesh (Squamish) community, and the work that needs to be done for future generations. The first step to decolonization is truth and this track is it.
