Peanut butter is one of those foods that appeals to everyone on a different level and makes you happy such as PB&J on toast, eating it right out of the jar, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, peanut dipping sauce, and protein bars.

Speaking of which, in episode 96, Genny spoke with Cheryl Zealand, who uses peanut butter as the base for all her protein bars, about how she started her business and how she created her bars.

Cheryl shared that as a young stay-at-home mother, she wanted something nutritious for herself and her children, something without chemicals or preservatives. After experimenting with different food combinations and several trial batches, she finally found the perfect bar. She started sharing them with her friends, who told her she should sell them. And the rest is history!

Celebrating 10 years in business, Cheryl has grown the business organically, starting with a shop on Portage Avenue with one employee to now, a store-front on Sherwin Road that includes a kitchen, processing area and warehouse with several employees, all who believe in her business and in her values.

Cheryl spoke about how important it is to give back to the community, and shared how she donates products to various community groups, has supported (still supports) front-line workers during COVID, and offers sponsorships to various organizations. There is one project that Cheryl shared that is near and dear to her heart, and it’s one that she doesn’t promote on social media or her website. She donates her bite-sized bars (about a third of a regular bar) to people who are recovering from surgeries, going through cancer treatments, dealing with an injury, or going through any type of situation where they need some high-quality nutrition to help with their healing process. And, as listed on the Cranked Energy website, it’s “real food made from real food”. Besides, peanut butter makes you happy!
