This week we talked to Miriam Avery about how she found herself in A&E doing mental health nursing in the middle of a pandemic. Miriams bio: I am a mental health nurse from Manchester, currently working in the central A&E department assessing the mental health needs of patients who present there. Since qualifying as a nurse in 2013 I have also worked in a children's eating disorder service, completed a master's degree in clinical research, and have worked on many different research projects including for covid treatments. I am really interested in the intersection between mental and physical health care and am due to start a PhD next year focused on improving services which bring these two things together for young people. When not at work in a bid to look after my own mental health I can sometimes be found Djing around Manchester or playing instruments very badly, as well as trying to get tough enough to do winter wild swimming!!

I am currently working on recruiting participants for a trial of a new OCD medication, due to open February 2022. If you live in Manchester (UK), are diagnosed with OCD, and would be interested in learning more about this then please email ocdtrial@gmmh.nhs.uk.
