On our Limelight special this week, host Trudy Feenane speaks with Katie Brill and Rory Kelly who are among the faces behind the brilliance of Junk Kouture.
Junk Kouture is a national competition that challenges second-level students to create high-end wearable fashion from everyday rubbish. 2020 marked the initiative's 10th year anniversary while also proving the most challenging year due to Covid-19 setbacks.
In a pre-covid world, the top 80 designs from across the country would be showcased in a live Grand Final in the 3arena, with the top design winning the Junk Kouture title. This year, the Junk Kouture team has been all hands on deck to bring the Grand Final to a digital audience for the first time ever, which airs Thursday the 4th of February at 7pm on RTÉ2.
To mark its 10th anniversary, the Junk Kouture team has announced an exciting three year World Tour that sees Junk Kouture spread its sustainable wings outside of Ireland to make it a global competition that spans the world’s seven continents, culminating with a World Final at the end of September.
Ahead of the eagerly-awaited Grand Final, we chatted about Junk Kouture going digital, its exciting three year global rollout and its contribution to conversations around sustainability.
