Anchors . . .

Emotional mood swings

continuously assault me

causing introspection,

the what if's and why's.

The what I am's and not's,

asking healthy questions.

What is my rock

a relationship or a belief?

What communion do I have

with either of them?

Relationships have seasons

and life.

Beliefs are dictatorial

having little heart.

Rules versus heart . . .

We get to choose

Which Will Be Our Anchor?

During our times of the different emotional turmoils we experience, our life anchors are often challenged. These challenges disrupt our moods and cause much introspection which can be very positive.

I say this because these times ask questions. Questions about our core beliefs and the practical outworking of our faith. I remember like it was yesterday, a time 40 yrs ago when as a new believer, God speaking to me. He made one of those statements which had an inbuilt question attached!

He said "Now you can choose to either walk with Me or walk with the Church". Because I was a new believer and didn't know how the system worked, I asked what He meant? He said "If you walk with the Church you will have trouble with Me and if you walk with Me you will have trouble with the Church!"

I have never forgotten that encounter. When that statement is analyzed it questions us about our Anchors. What or who is your Anchor? Is it your direct relationship with God or your relationship with a church system or doctrinal belief? During these uncertain times do you have your peace or are you in pieces?

I'm not saying this to upset you in any way, rather I am asking the question to find out how honest you are with yourself. 40 yrs ago God gave me that choice to make about who I will walk with, and to be totally honest with you I did both. I had some issues of my own insecurity and wanted to be accepted by my fellow believers. I didn't want to be one who was a rebel or questioning sheep.

What God spoke to me 40 yrs ago still stands today. There is a very powerful passage in Psalm 91:7

A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. I have heard psalm 91 called "the little Red Hen Psalm" because it reveals God's protection over us. The revelation of this fact of God being our protection and protector gives us security and our place of peace during turbulent times.

If we ask ourselves good grounding questions inspired by scriptural truths, they ground our faith and keep us focused.

# What sort of questions do you ask yourself and what are the reasons you ask them? Discuss this with your spouse or close friend.

# How open and teachable are you to be really challenged about your anchors?

# What would be your response to God's statement question which He asked me above?

It takes real courage and strength to walk against the flow of a river. When you stand against all logic and reasoned persuasion because you know God said something different to you, and you really knew it was God, you will need to protect yourself.

Scriptures like, Love never fails from 1 Cor 13 and this beautifully translated verse from Pro 15:1 will equip you and keep you on track.

Proverbs 15:1 Passion Translation

Respond gently when you are confronted and you’ll defuse the rage of another. Responding with sharp, cutting words will only make it worse. Don’t you know that being angry can ruin the testimony of even the wisest of men?
