In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many parents are faced with the challenging task of actively engaging in what and how their children are learning. This has sparked recent conversations about homeschooling and its relevance in these times. On this episode of Education Unscripted, our special guests are a unique family of four, the Fakoya family, whose two children: Foluyinka and Bolutife, were homeschooled in Warri, Nigeria. Both of them ended up receiving offers from the prestigious Harvard University, which one of them took up. This atypical family shared insights on how homeschooling can provide a holistic learning experience. They also shared how the following characteristics strengthened their homeschooling approach: a strong family reading culture, instilling a sense of independence, setting clear expectations, quality family time, and an unconventional approach to television!
