10 Strategies for Starting a Podcast

  1. Decide what your podcast is going to be about. Plan before taking the leap.
  2. Do not start podcasting without knowing your destination or journey.
  3. Know your “niche”.
  4. Narrow down your theme for your podcast as specifically as you can.
  5. Make episodes dedicated to that “niche”.
  6. Serve the niche, and only that niche directly. Do not veer off-topic.
  7. Decide on a hosting site.
  8. Find a solid hosting site.
  9. Own your RSS feed.
  10. Equipment is important, but the content is imperative.
  11. All the best equipment setup means nothing if you do not have good content
  12. Draw your listeners in with interesting content that answers questions entertains, and keeps them coming back for more.
  13. Listen to your listeners.
  14. Read your comments and respond to all listeners, especially when starting your podcast.
  15. Record or “batch” 5 episodes before you release.
  16. Many podcasts fail because they get ready to record and then have nothing planned for future episodes.
  17. Make an outline of topics for episodes that you can add value to your listeners within your niche.
  18. Stay consistent with your release schedule.
  19. Your subscribers/listeners like your consistency. Give them what they want when they expect it.
  20. Do not be afraid to grow with your podcast or change things up, if they are not getting the results you want.
  21. Your podcast can evolve and grow just like you will. Do not be afraid of change.
  22. Enjoy the ride!
  23. If you do not have a passion for what you are podcasting about, then your audience will sense that from you. Be excited about what you are talking about.
  24. This is your podcast, but always keep your focus on enjoying the ride along with your listeners.
