Operation Overlord, otherwise known as the Battle of Normandy or D-Day, was the successful invasion of German-occupied France that reopened the western front during World War II. While Germany was distracted fighting the Soviet Union on the eastern front, the Allies were busy planning the largest seaborne invasion up to that point.
