Today’s podcast shares the journey of Craig Mobley, Clemson’s first African-American scholarship student-athlete in any sport, when he came to Clemson from Chester, SC, as an honor student in the fall of 1969. Mobley played two years on the Clemson basketball team before deciding to concentrate on his studies. He certainly did that, earning a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, with a minor in physics. He later earned two masters degrees, one in business administration and one in system management from other institutions. One of the most well-rounded Clemson graduates, he also served as a major in the United States Air Force. Mobley had considerable experience in basketball after he graduated from Clemson, as he was a coach of the men’s and women’s teams at Middlesex Community College in Massachusetts. Mobley was later chairman of the Los Angeles Watts Summer Games, while running his own Construction company. Mobley also worked for the 3M Corporation during his long career.
