The first half of the show discusses all of Nebraska’s defensive staff hires, why it felt like John Butler was always Matt Rhule’s first choice, what Phil Snow might do for the team and thoughts on both Phil Simpson and Terry Braden.

Then the trio discussed the portal, different targets, a few names to know and positions where it makes sense for the Huskers too add.

The Husker247 Podcast gathered on Wednesday and did something remarkably unique by focusing a January podcast on players returning to the Huskers and not new additions or transfer portal discussions. The premise was simple but yielded some different results — who is one player on offense and one player on defense you’re excited about returning and seeing what they can do in 2025? The trio discuss the names and then dig a little deeper and talk about a few sleepers who might become bigger names in 2025. Finally there’s a little special teams coordinator talk, a transfer portal mention and a few other odds and ends to round out the show. What’s the biggest issue for the Huskers right now as they keep losing (mostly) close games? Finally will guess a random Husker hooper stump BC or can he find the answer inside the thousands of names in his brain? Husker247 got together on Tuesday to discuss how the transfer portal class is shaping up and the big change in special teams. The discussion starts with who the Huskers have added thus far and which additions could be immediate impact type players. From there which ones might need a little seasoning but could provide value down the line? The discussion evolved into areas where the Huskers could continue to add or haven’t quite hit the mark through the portal. Finally the show ended with a discussion about the plan at special teams and what the Huskers need to change after some disastrous seasons. The final Sunday Side Session of 2024 comes to a close with 1620 morning show host Matt McMaster joining and providing his thoughts on the game, the season and what’s ahead for Nebraska football. Things start on defense and the two discuss how things look for John Butler moving forward, the performances of some of the younger players in the Pinstripe Bowl and what concerns exist moving forward. Then the two dive deep into Nebraska’s offensive picture, each agrees there’s a lot to like with the pass catchers and Emmett Johnson has solidified himself, but there’s still some question about what the offensive line might look like and, of course, what kind of step forward Dylan Raiola makes. Finally the two finish up discussing or ranting about Nebraska’s special teams. How is it addressed and does Matt Rhule have a plan to avoid another abysmal year in the third phase? Bad Boy Mower Pinstripe Bowl champs! Mike Schaefer talks about the Huskers win in Yankee Stadium on Saturday and how it was a nice encapsulation of what this season has turned into. A send off for seniors like Rahmir Johnson and Ty Robinson and then a springboard for players like Vincent Shavers, who represent the next wave who look to build off this and play in even more meaningful games in the future. Schaefer touches on Nebraska’s play overall, what stood out on both sides of the ball and finishes with thoughts on special teams and why the Huskers can’t go through another season with such inept play in the third phase.
