Karen Ferris is a kindred spirit. She lives 14 hours away on the other side of the world from me in Melburne, Australia, but when you listen to us talk, we laugh a lot. It's not that the topic is silly but more that is so nice to chat with someone with such a similar mindset towards change, leadership and the future of work.

The work that we both do challenges the status quo and established mindsets. That's why Karen's brand statement resonates so much with me. She truly is a rebel with a cause. She doesn't seek change just for the heck of it but rather with the intentional and meaningful goal of making work and life better. The way things have always been done isn't the way they always need to be done. Karen mentioned a quote and book title from Marshall Goldsmith during our episode - what got you here won't get you there. We need to use imagination and creativity to lead differently. We have to unlearn what used to work and relearn what will work and keep repeating that process in the face of constant change.

In this episode, we talk about high profile examples of companies doing remote well and companies mishandling return to office. Karen shares some detailed analysis she has done comparing the financial results and employee engagement results of companies both in favour and against distributed work (spoiler alert - RTO mandates aren't good for the bottom line).

And in a new feature for the podcast, we talk about the best questions to ask and our favorite vision for the future of work.
